Required Skills
Job Description
Principal Engineer, Automations
Location: Hybrid in Nashville, TN
Compensation: $190,000 - $240,000 base salary (depending on experience)
Eligibility: U.S. residents only (due to privacy tech compliance requirements)
About Us
At 360 Privacy, we build proactive digital security tools to protect high-risk individuals, from senior executives to public figures and their families. Our platform removes personal data exposure across the open web, deep web, and dark web through a combination of human expertise and large-scale automation.
Trusted by 40 of the Fortune 100, we're scaling rapidly and investing heavily in our Automations platform, the systems that quietly power discovery, monitoring, and removal workflows at scale.
Who We're Looking For
We're hiring a Principal Engineer to own and evolve our most complex automation systems. This is a senior IC role, and we're specifically seeking one of two profiles:
Profile A: Anti-Bot / Web Scraping SME
You've spent years operating in adversarial web environments.
You understand how bot detection systems like Cloudflare, PerimeterX, and DataDome work at a technical level- and you've built systems that reliably operate around them.
You think in terms of fingerprinting vectors, challenge solvers, proxy rotation strategies, and detection signal minimization.
You've been blocked, you've adapted, and you've built scraping infrastructure that stays up when sites fight back.ew
Profile B: Prefect Expert
You've designed and operated large-scale, long-running Prefect workflows in production.
You think obsessively about failure modes: idempotency, partial-state recovery, retry strategies, and backoff. You've built pipelines that process millions of records and recover gracefully when things go wrong halfway through.
You know how to make Prefect deployments observable, debuggable, and maintainable over years.
For either profile: Python has been your primary language for at least the last 3 years.
You've written production Python recently and continuously, you've owned systems that run 24/7, and you have strong opinions about reliability earned through experience.
What You'll Do
Architect and own large-scale, Python-based automation systems that operate continuously and reliably
Design event-driven, distributed automation pipelines that coordinate scraping, data processing, and downstream actions
Lead the design and evolution of web scraping systems operating in adversarial conditions (rate limits, bot detection, site variability)
Build and refine bot detection avoidance strategies, balancing reliability, scale, and compliance
Own workflow orchestration using Prefect to manage long-running, failure-tolerant workflows
Design systems with strong guarantees around idempotency, retries, partial-state recovery, and backoff
Partner with Product, Security, and Data teams to translate ambiguous requirements into durable automation platforms
Establish patterns and standards for observability, alerting, and operational hygiene
Mentor senior engineers and influence platform direction through design reviews, without direct people management
Make principled decisions about when automation is inappropriate, particularly in security- or compliance-sensitive areas
This role has significant architectural impact and requires strong technical judgment rather than day-to-day task execution.
Requirements
10+ years of professional software engineering experience
5+ years of hands-on Python as your primary language in production systems (not Java, Go, or other languages with occasional Python)
Demonstrated ownership of long-lived automation or platform systems operating at scale
Strong experience with distributed systems and event-driven architectures
Experience operating systems in AWS and/or GCP environments
Demonstrated technical mentorship or platform leadership, regardless of title
U.S. residency required
This role requires advanced proficiency in English to effectively communicate complex information with team members and stakeholders, and to complete job-related documentation and collaboration tasks. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and are committed to providing reasonable accommodations where applicable.
Plus deep expertise in at least one of:
Anti-bot systems: Building or bypassing bot detection (Cloudflare, PerimeterX, DataDome), browser fingerprinting, proxy infrastructure, CAPTCHA handling, and maintaining scraping reliability against actively hostile targets;
OR
Prefect: Deep experience designing and operating Prefect workflows in production- idempotency, partial failure recovery, long-running distributed pipelines, and operational observability
Nice to Haves
Experience across both profiles (anti-bot + Prefect)
Familiarity with message-driven systems (Kafka, Redis Streams, SQS/SNS)
Experience with containers and Kubernetes-based deployments
Background in privacy tech, security, or other regulated environments
Strong observability mindset (metrics-first design, structured logging, alerting)
Why Join Us
Impact: Build automation systems that protect real people from real-world risks
Culture: High ownership, low-ego engineering team that values correctness, reliability, and clarity
Longevity: Influence the direction of a core platform built to last years, not quarters
Growth: Ongoing learning and conference opportunities (Black Hat, DEF CON, etc.)
Unique perk: Digital privacy protection for you and your family
