About the team: The Data department at Agoda enables data-driven decision making across the company by building operational and analytical databases, queue systems, BI tools, and data science infrastructure. The Data Core Apps team operates large-scale systems spanning multiple data centers, handling millions of writes per second and tens of petabytes of data. We focus on real-time ingestion, replication, enrichment, storage and analytics — pushing big-data technologies to the edge.

Key responsibilities

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Design and implement high-performance, reliable data systems and services (Spark, ETL, storage, data exchange).

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Improve scalability, stability, accuracy, speed and efficiency of existing data platforms.

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Build libraries, frameworks, or end-to-end systems with strong test coverage and code quality.

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Troubleshoot and resolve production issues; perform root-cause analysis.

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Collaborate with product owners and cross-functional teams to deliver data tools that automate large-scale tasks.

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Contribute to data lineage, data quality, and data exchange initiatives.

Required skills, qualifications and experience

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">7+ years of experience in software and data engineering.

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Expert-level Apache Spark knowledge (design, tuning, debugging).

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Expert-level JVM understanding and proficiency in Java or Scala.

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Strong SQL skills.

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Familiarity with Python for tooling and scripting.

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Experience with Linux systems administration.

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Experience debugging and reasoning about production issues in distributed systems.

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Good understanding of data architecture principles.

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Experience with Big Data ecosystems and tools (Hadoop, S3, Kafka, etc.).

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Analytical problem-solving capabilities.

Desirable (nice-to-have)

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Experience working in Data Infrastructure or Data Platform teams.

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Contributions or experience with open-source products.

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Experience with Kubeflow, data lineage, data quality systems, or ETL tooling.

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Previous work at scale (multi-datacenter, multi-PB environments).

Salary

Salary range: Starting from AUD 77,000
