Role Overview:

We are looking for an experienced and passionate engineer who can champion the design and development of our services, drive alignment with leadership and stakeholders, influence and build trust with teams, and execute delivery of complex systems considering scalability, future extensibility, and reliability.

The desired candidate will help building the world class systems and bring innovations both in the front-end and back-end systems. The work will require the out-of-the-box thinking to bring the current customer experience to the next level.

At Coupang, the Fraud Prevention and Detection System (FDPS) team’s vision is build the world’s most trusted, intelligent, and adaptive fraud prevention and detection ecosystem.

What You Will Do :

• Lead architecture design for scalable, extensible, and reliable systems in FDPS

• Build systems that will apply AI/ML and LLM technologies to prevent Fraud within sub-second latencies

• Align technology roadmaps with leadership and stakeholders.

• Remove technical blockers and simplify complex problems into actionable solutions.

• Decompose complex problems into simple, straightforward solutions, providing mechanisms for the teams to prioritize ruthlessly and “Move with Urgency.”

• Write code when needed to guide teams and support high-priority initiatives.

• Identify business and tech opportunities; evaluate and adopt new technologies.

• Recruit, mentor, and grow top-tier engineering talent.

Basic Qualifications:

• At least 10-12 years in software development, with a strong record of delivering impactful, large-scale systems.

• 4+ years building, operating backend services and AI/ML inference architectures.

• Deep expertise in distributed systems, storage, data processing, and server technologies, with focus on operations excellence (latency, throughput and high availability)

• Strong coding skills in Java and Spring Framework; object-oriented design.

• Experience driving improvements in code quality

Preferred Qualifications :

• Additionally, experience with:

• AWS-based service development and operations

• Kafka, Spark/EMR, Hive for streaming and computation heavy systems

• ORM tools (JPA, Hibernate), domain modelling

• NoSQL, relational/columnar and Graph databases

• Git, CI/CD automation, and Agile methodologies

• Logistics-related service development

Type of Work Model :

• Hybrid - Coupang hybrid work model is designed to enable a culture of collaboration that acts a catalyst to enrich the experience of employees. Employees are required to work at least 3 days in the office per week, with the flexibility to work from home 2 days a week, depending on the role requirement. Some businesses may require more time in office due to nature of work.
