About the Team

We're a fast-paced start-up-like team working on one of Workday's newest innovative products, Workday Scheduling. Workday Scheduling enables employers to schedule their workforce efficiently while also empowering workers to take ownership over their availability and preferences. Our product consists of a sophisticated user experience (browser & mobile) and an engine that leverages artificial intelligence to calculate an efficient work schedule that satisfies the needs of both employers and workers. About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to play a key role in driving quality strategy, automation excellence, and functional testing leadership across one or more product areas.

This is a hybrid role where you will combine deep functional testing expertise with strong automation skills, while also influencing test strategy, framework improvements, and overall quality practices within the team.

Ideal candidate should have:

• Deep experience defining and implementing functional, regression, and exploratory test strategies, with the ability to assess and prioritize risk across features and services for comprehensive coverage.

• Strong technical background in architecting, designing, and evolving JavaScript/TypeScript-based test automation frameworks.

• Advanced debugging skills to investigate complex test failures, intermittent issues, and production defects, drive root-cause analysis, and implement systemic, long-term fixes.

• Proactively evaluates emerging QA and automation trends, tools, and practices, and leads the introduction of improvements that raise the quality bar for the team.

• Acts as a strong cross-functional partner and quality advocate, effectively collaborating and influencing across distributed teams to align on quality goals, standards, and testing guidelines.

About You

Responsibilities:

• Own and implement end-to-end quality strategy for multiple features or product areas.

• Lead complex functional, integration, and regression testing efforts, including risk assessment and test planning.

• Design, enhance, and maintain scalable and reliable automation frameworks using JavaScript/TypeScript.

• Write high-quality automated tests and set standards for test structure, coverage, and maintainability.

• Actively monitor and stabilize build pipelines, triaging failures and resolving flaky or intermittent issues.

• Perform deep debugging across automation, application code, and test environments to identify root causes.

• Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance on testing standards.

• Partner closely with developers, product managers, and UX designers to improve testability and quality outcomes.

• Stay ahead of emerging trends in QA and test automation and introduce improvements where appropriate.
 

Basic Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in test automation, quality engineering, or software development.

• Strong experience in functional testing of complex systems, including edge cases and failure scenarios.

• Advanced proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript for automation development.

• Solid experience working with modern automation frameworks like Playwright, WebdriverIO, and Cypress.

• Practical experience using element locators (XPath, CSS Selectors).

• Solid object-oriented programming and test design principles.

• Experience supporting automated testing in continuous integration and delivery environments. (Jenkins, Bamboo, or similar).

• Proficient with Git and collaborative development workflows.

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience.

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).

• Experience with mobile automation testing.

• Exposure to performance, load, or security testing.

• Experience working in an agile/scrum environment.
