Senior Software Engineer / Tech Lead: AI-Native Platform

Your mission:
Role Summary

• We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer / Tech Lead who can operate as a senior individual contributor while also setting technical direction, establishing engineering standards, and mentoring the team as we grow.

• This role is ideal for someone who has already worked as a senior/staff-level engineer or informal tech lead, and wants to take on more architectural ownership and long-term influence in a fast-moving AI-centric environment.

• You will partner closely with the CPTO and collaborate with backend, AI, and product teams to deliver high-impact systems.

Architecture & System Ownership

• Design and own core backend architecture across multiple services

• Build and scale distributed, event-driven systems

• Establish patterns for reliability, performance, and observability

• Own major technical decisions and ensure long-term maintainability

AI-Enabled Systems

• Architect integrations with LLM-driven components

• Work on retrieval layers, inference pipelines, and structured output flows

• Collaborate with AI engineers on evaluation, monitoring, and model integration

Infrastructure & Reliability

• Oversee backend infrastructure using AWS, Terraform, CI/CD

• Improve resilience, security, and operational excellence

• Drive observability, monitoring, and instrumentation practices

Engineering Leadership (non-manager IC)

• Define and enforce code quality, architecture standards, and review practices

• Guide backend engineers through complex problem-solving and design

• Contribute to hiring, interviewing, and onboarding future team members

• Work closely with product to drive technical planning and roadmap execution

Your profile:
Technical Expertise

• Extensive experience building backend systems with Node.js / TypeScript

• Strong architectural skills in distributed systems, async workflows, and service boundaries

• Deep understanding of data modeling and relational databases (PostgreSQL)

• Experience with AWS, Terraform, CI/CD, and modern DevOps tooling

• Familiarity with AI/LLM system integration or strong motivation to learn quickly

Leadership Qualities

• Strong communicator who can articulate trade-offs and technical reasoning

• Collaborative, low-ego and pragmatic - prioritizes outcomes over ego

• Bias for action - comfortable shipping fast in ambiguous 0→1 environments

• System thinker - sees the big picture while delivering incrementally

• Natural mentor to other engineers, even without formal people management
