The Role:

Sauce Labs is looking for a passionate Senior Backend Engineer to join the Sauce Connect team. This agile development team plays a critical role in enabling enterprise customers to maximize their use of Sauce Labs by providing a fast, secure connection between their internal development networks and our cloud-based virtual testing environments. You will work closely with the Product Owner, Engineering Manager, and other talented Sauce Connect engineers to achieve excellent results and shape the future of Sauce Connect

Responsibilities:

• Lead the technical direction and architectural design of Sauce Connect, collaborating with a cross-functional team to deliver a fast, secure, and scalable tunneling solution.

• Design, develop, and own projects across the full stack, from the backend server infrastructure to the client-side application on Linux, Windows, and macOS.

• Act as a technical expert for complex, escalated customer issues, performing root cause analysis and implementing robust solutions to prevent future problems.

• Drive continuous improvements in the scale, performance, and quality of our Trusted Connection Technologies, mentoring other engineers on best practices and system health.

• Proactively identify and evaluate emerging technologies in the open-source community, presenting well-researched proposals for adoption to drive innovation and technical excellence.

• Make and defend architectural decisions based on your extensive experience, balancing trade-offs between technical debt, velocity, and long-term maintainability.

Required Skills:

• 5+ years of professional software development experience in Python and Golang, with a proven track record of designing, building, and operating complex distributed systems and high-availability online services at scale.

• Experience in working with CI/CD tools (designing and implementing robust, automated pipelines using tools like GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins)

• Advanced experience with tunneling, proxy, or VPN-related solutions, with a understanding of their security implications and performance characteristics.

• Deep knowledge of TCP/IP networking, HTTP2, SSL/TLS, and WebSockets. You should be able to debug network issues at the packet level.

• Hands-on experience deploying and managing containerized applications at scale using Kubernetes.

• Demonstrable product development experience, including the ability to influence product strategy and make technical trade-offs to deliver customer-facing value.

• Exceptional ownership mentality and a passion for crafting elegant, well-architected products that deliver stellar user experiences.

Nice to Haves:

• Experience with asynchronous programming

• Experience building and consuming microservices

• Knowledge and understanding of data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, and design patterns.

• Familiarity with modern monitoring systems (e.g., Prometheus or OpenTelemetry)

• Understanding of common security practices involved in protecting customer data

We are a hybrid workplace that recognizes the importance of flexibility while valuing in-person collaboration and relationship building. As a result, Saucers located near an office location must be able and willing to come into the office. Those hired remotely must be able and willing to travel to an office as required by the specific role.

The compensation range provided below represents the base salary only for a Full-time Employment contract (umowa o pracę) and excludes fringe benefits, potential bonuses, or stock-based compensation (equity). Your individual offer will be determined based on factors such as skills, education, professional experience, and internal equity (alignment with similarly situated team members at Sauce Labs).
