Senior Software Engineer, Java/Kotlin - (Fintech)

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Java OR Kotlin - (Fintech) to join our Payments team and build worldwide innovative Wallet, Payment, and Anti-Fraud solutions with us. Work and scale our internal Payments engine that would handle payments for the entire Delivery Hero. Being part of building the financial backbone of Delivery Hero, you’ll develop products that empower millions of customers and merchants, from seamless payments to innovative financial solutions like wallets and credit. Your work will support our path to profitability by creating financial flexibility for users and enabling smooth transactions across 70+ countries.

Some problems we are working on in the payments domain: 

• How do we improve the payment success rate?

• How do we reduce the number of fraudulent transactions by keeping the payment journey simple?

• How do we handle the high load during lunch and dinner peak time in a cost efficient way?

• Which payment options to show customers for the best payment experience.

What You Will Do

• Design, build, and deliver highly scalable software systems operating in complex, global business environments, used across more than 70 countries

• Lead backend engineering efforts with a strong focus on distributed systems, leveraging Java, Kotlin, and modern frameworks such as Spring / Spring Boot, Hibernate, and JUnit.

• Own services end-to-end by embracing a true “you build it, you run it” mindset, with deep involvement in infrastructure automation and continuous deployment.

• Define and execute highly effective testing strategies by applying unit, integration, contract, and end-to-end testing at scale.

• Drive high-quality software design by systematically applying design patterns, SOLID principles, and Domain-Driven Design (DDD).

• Build secure, resilient systems by applying secure coding best practices throughout the development lifecycle.

• Rapidly diagnose and resolve complex production issues across multi-region, distributed microservices platforms.

• Proven experience designing and delivering software systems in highly complex business domains at global scale.

• Deep backend engineering expertise with a strong preference for distributed systems.

• Hands-on mastery of Java, Kotlin, Spring / Spring Boot, Hibernate, and JUnit.

A strong engineering ownership mindset with a passion for automation, CI/CD, and reliability.

• Exceptional problem-solving skills, curiosity, and a creative, outside-the-box approach to complex challenges.

• A high bar for quality, performance, and craftsmanship — with a relentless attention to detail.
