About the role

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer Platform who thrives at the intersection of scale, reliability, and developer experience. You’ll be the backbone of HackerRank’s services, building and scaling our API platform to be secure, performant, and developer-friendly. Your work will empower teams across HackerRank to deliver faster, more reliably, and with greater consistency. If you love designing scalable platforms, automating workflows, and making life easier for developers, this role is for you.

What you’ll do

• Design and evolve HackerRank’s API platform to ensure standardization, scalability, and governance across services.

• Enhance developer experience by building self-service tools, automation, and well-documented APIs.

• Drive automation in API deployment, infrastructure provisioning, and CI/CD workflows.

• Implement and enforce security measures (OAuth2, OpenID Connect, rate limiting, and access controls) to safeguard data and prevent misuse.

• Partner closely with product teams to promote adoption, improve reliability, and optimize performance.

Who you are

• Backend/Platform engineer with 4+ years of experience in building and scaling API platforms

• Deep expertise in API design (REST, GraphQL, gRPC), lifecycle management, and microservices.

• Skilled in distributed systems, service discovery, and container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker).

• Proficient with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), API gateways, service meshes, and observability tools.

• Experienced with SQL/NoSQL databases, scalable schema design, and query optimization.

• Hands-on with CI/CD automation, infrastructure-as-code (Terraform), and event-driven systems (Kafka).

Even better if you have

• A proven track record of improving API governance, security, and automation at scale.

• Experience enabling cross-team platform adoption through tooling and documentation.

• Contributions to open-source API frameworks or developer tools.
