The Role

We are currently seeking a senior backend software engineer to join Addepar's File Management System team! This team is responsible for Addepar's enterprise file management platform — building the distributed systems that power secure file storage, access control, and third-party integrations for wealth management firms.

In this role, you'll tackle challenges at the intersection of distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and enterprise-scale access control — designing solutions that scale from small advisory firms to the largest wealth managers in the world.

We want people who are excited by hard distributed systems problems: designing idempotent event-driven pipelines and building infrastructure that handles bursty workloads while meeting strict latency SLAs. Addepar takes a market-based approach to pay. A successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on the role, job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions.

The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target base salary for roles in Colorado, California, and New York. The current range for this role is $126,000 - $197,000 (base salary) + bonus + equity + benefits.

What You’ll Do

• Architect, implement, and maintain backend services that manage file storage, permissions synchronization, and third-party integrations at enterprise scale — writing well-designed, testable code.

• Design and build event-driven systems for real-time permission propagation across Addepar's financial graph and external storage providers, meeting compliance revocation SLAs.

• Collaborate effectively with product managers, engineers, security, and compliance partners on projects involving sensitive data access controls.

• Contribute to migration efforts (e.g., FileVault to Box, webhook consolidation, folder structure evolution) ensuring zero-downtime rollouts for production firms.

• Mentor other engineers on the team and promote engineering best practices and principles.

• Explore and build AI-powered capabilities for intelligent file processing, automated metadata extraction, and content-aware workflows

• Evaluate emerging third-party file platform capabilities to expand Addepar's file management offerings

Who You Are

• 5+ years of professional backend software engineering experience

• B.S., or M.S. in Computer Science or similar technical field of study

• Experience with server-side languages like Java, Python, or C++

• Experience with relational databases (MySQL, Postgres, SQL Server)

• Ability to complete complex projects involving partners across multiple teams

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Bonus: Experience with building scalable cloud infrastructure on AWS
