Position Summary:
The Senior Analyst, Pricing & Automation is the primary owner of KCH Transportation's automated pricing channel which is internally referred to as "machine freight." This is a senior individual contributor role that sits at the intersection of pricing strategy, shipper profile management, and data analytics. The Senior Analyst is responsible for ensuring that automated quoting systems operate within defined guardrails, are continuously optimized, and generate performance insights needed to scale machine freight intelligently and profitably. Reporting directly to the Director of Pricing & Market Intelligence, this person works closely with Beau King to refine automation logic, manage shipper profiles, and build the reporting infrastructure that drives KCH's machine freight strategy forward.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
“Machine Freight” Operations & Enablement
Serve as the primary operator and subject matter expert for KCH's automated pricing platform, including third party tools and any successor systems
Build, manage, and continuously optimize shipper profiles within the automated quoting system, including markup curves, lane rules, and profile segmentation logic
Monitor automated quote activity on an ongoing basis, identifying anomalies, margin outliers, and escalation triggers before they become problems
Own the escalation threshold framework — ensuring loads that exceed margin risk, service risk, or rate volatility thresholds are surfaced and handled appropriately
Partner with Operations to support end-to-end automation of the quote, accept, build, and cover workflow
Maintain complete documentation of all active shipper profiles, rule sets, and automation logic to ensure governance, auditability, and continuity
Note: Operations retains ownership of data integrity (load details), track & trace, and customer service execution.
Analytics & Reporting
Build and maintain performance dashboards tracking automated quoting activity, win rates, margin per load, and load conversion across machine freight channels
Deliver regular reporting cadences (weekly and monthly) on machine freight performance to the Director of Pricing & Market Intelligence and senior leadership
Identify trends in automated quote performance and translate findings into specific, actionable adjustments to profiles or logic
Track and report on escalation frequency, automation failure points, and margin leakage within the machine freight channel
Support the broader pricing team with ad hoc data pulls, lane-level analysis, and market intelligence reporting as needed
Continuous Improvement
Actively test and iterate on profile configurations to improve win rate, margin capture, and automation coverage over time
Contribute to the pricing flywheel by feeding machine freight performance data back into pricing models and automation logic
Stay current on market rate trends and carrier behavior to ensure automated pricing logic remains competitive and responsive to market conditions
Identify opportunities to expand machine freight coverage to new shippers, lanes, or load types
Competencies:
Analytical Rigor & Attention to Detail
Systems and Process Thinking
Pricing & Margin Awareness
Self-Directed and Accountable
Clear Communication of Data Insights
Continuous Improvement Mindset
Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Supply Chain, Economics, or related field
5+ years of experience in freight brokerage, logistics analytics, pricing operations, or a related commercial environment
Deep, hands-on experience with automated quoting platforms, TMS systems, or pricing tools
Demonstrated ability to build, manage, and optimize rules-based systems or shipper and customer profile configurations
Proven track record of building and owning performance dashboards and reporting infrastructure
Strong working knowledge of truckload market dynamics, lane economics, and rate behavior
Experience working cross-functionally with operations and technology teams to enable automation workflows
Computer Skills:
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis tools
Experience with BI platforms (Power BI, Tableau, or similar)
Familiarity with TMS, CRM, pricing tools, and automation systems
