Role Summary

LSEG is seeking a hands‑on, highly skilled Principal Engineer to drive the architecture, technical direction, and delivery of key services within our flagship LSEG Workspace platform. You will tackle complex technical challenges, define long‑term engineering strategy, and elevate engineering excellence across the organisation. This role blends deep technical leadership, strategic system design, and meaningful engineering impact while fostering a modern, high‑performance engineering culture.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Set the technical and architectural vision for key components of the Workspace platform, ensuring alignment with broader platform goals and engineering standards.

• Design, build, and optimise distributed, cloud‑native systems, contributing hands‑on through coding, prototyping, solution design, and performance improvements.

• Solve complex, high‑impact engineering challenges, guiding teams toward scalable and resilient solutions while removing technical barriers.

• Drive end‑to‑end software delivery, from architecture and implementation to testing, integration, and iterative release cycles.

• Communicate technical direction and progress to senior stakeholders, providing clear insight into architectural decisions, risks, dependencies, and delivery status.

• Collaborate with product, UX, and business stakeholders to translate strategic objectives into actionable technical outcomes and domain‑specific roadmaps.

• Partner with DevOps/SRE teams to ensure systems meet high standards of availability, observability, scalability, and operational excellence.

• Mentor engineers at all levels, developing strong technical depth, architectural thinking, and modern engineering practices.

• Support talent growth, including recruitment, capability building, and fostering a culture of innovation, ownership, and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Bring

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

• Expert‑level proficiency in backend engineering, distributed systems, and cloud‑native architectures; exposure to full‑stack or frontend technologies is a plus.

• Hands‑on experience with at least one major cloud platform and modern cloud development patterns.

• Proven experience leading complex technical initiatives in an Agile environment, including guiding cross‑functional or distributed teams.

• Strong architectural and system design skills, with the ability to define and drive technical strategy for a domain.

• Demonstrated ability to solve sophisticated engineering problems and deliver system‑wide improvements.

• A customer‑ and product‑focused mindset, with strong skills in requirements analysis and translating business needs into technical solutions.

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders effectively.

• High emotional intelligence, strong leadership presence, and a passion for developing engineering talent.
