Contribute to safe, accurate medication delivery within a high-volume, technology-enabled centralized pharmacy environment supporting Veterans nationwide in an automated central-fill pharmacy setting. Working alongside pharmacy technicians and quality teams in a highly automated dispensing environment, this pharmacist role combines clinical verification, quality assurance oversight, and advanced pharmacy technology workflows supporting medication safety, workflow accuracy, and timely prescription fulfillment for Veterans nationwide.
Practice within a centralized pharmacy environment supported by advanced automation, verification-focused workflows, and coordinated pharmacy operations that help ensure timely medication access for Veterans nationwide.
Key Responsibilities
• Verify prescription orders for legend medications, OTC products, Med/Surg items, and Schedule III–V controlled substances.
• Perform drug utilization review, prescription assessment, and medication cross-checks at pharmacy checking stations.
• Support advanced automation, medication verification, packaging, labeling, and quality assurance workflows within a high-throughput pharmacy environment.
• Identify unusual doses, incorrect drugs, wrong strengths, or potential medication mix-ups and report concerns according to CMOP policies.
• Supervise contracted Pharmacy Technicians and support compliance with VA, TJC, SOP, documentation, and reporting standards.
• Dispense medications within corporate and regulatory guidelines, including controlled substance requirements and safe handling practices.
Requirements
• ACPE-accredited PharmD or B.S. in Pharmacy.
• Active, unrestricted pharmacist license in a U.S. state or territory.
• U.S. Citizenship and proficiency in written and spoken English.
• Ability to work assigned shifts, including potential evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Strong attention to detail and demonstrated ability to work effectively in high-volume, metrics-driven pharmacy environments.
• Proficiency with pharmacy information systems and automated dispensing technologies.
• Understanding of safety precautions related to handling hazardous materials and hazardous waste.
Preferred
• 1–3+ years of experience in hospital, central-fill, mail order, or high-volume outpatient pharmacy settings.
• Experience with DUR, quality control, controlled substances, automation, packaging systems, or e-prescribing workflows.
• PGY1 residency, board certification, or process-improvement experience preferred.
• Familiarity with VA systems such as VistA/CPRS.
