Performance QA Engineer

Team Summary

As a Performance QA Engineer within the SQUAD team, you will be a key member of the engineering organization, ensuring our video and computer vision products deliver consistent performance at scale across global deployments.

Job Summary

Your primary responsibility will be to design, implement, and execute performance tests that validate our systems meet performance, scalability, and reliability requirements. This role goes beyond running simple load tests — you will architect complex testing scenarios, analyze system behavior under stress, and develop performance testing frameworks using modern programming languages and cloud technologies.

You'll work with a growing portfolio of distributed services across video processing, computer vision, and backend infrastructure — each with independent release cycles requiring dedicated performance validation. Performance sign-off is a release-blocking gate, meaning your work directly affects deployment timelines across multiple product teams.
Beyond testing, you will contribute to capacity planning, cloud cost optimization, and production performance investigations, making this role a direct partner in engineering and infrastructure decisions.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Define performance test strategy and requirements for new features and systems

• Define performance benchmarks and KPIs for critical services

• Design and implement scalable performance testing frameworks and test scenarios

• Execute different types of performance tests as required across multiple services with independent release cycles

• Analyze performance metrics and provide actionable recommendations

• Perform capacity planning and fleet sizing analysis, including cost projections and cloud resource right-sizing recommendations

• Investigate production latency regressions and performance anomalies by correlating metrics across multiple service layers

• Conduct A/B performance comparisons between service revisions to isolate regression sources and provide root cause analysis

• Benchmark alternative infrastructure configurations to identify cost-performance trade-offs and inform scaling policy decisions

• Integrate performance testing into CI/CD pipelines for continuous validation

• Build automated reporting pipelines and dashboards for performance insights

• Collaborate with development, DevOps, and QA teams to resolve performance issues

• Participate in incident analysis when performance regressions occur

• Create and maintain test artifacts (plans, reports, dashboards)

Qualifications and Skills

• Strong programming skills in Python or similar languages with test automation experience

• Strong understanding of performance testing methodologies and best practices

• Experience with load testing tools (Locust, k6, Gatling, or similar)

• Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions)

• Understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and cloud concepts

• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)

• Ability to set up a performance testing process and plan testing activities

• Experience in analyzing performance testing results, identifying system bottlenecks, and providing actionable insights

• Strong understanding of REST API testing and HTTP protocols

• Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools (CloudWatch, Grafana, Datadog, etc.)

• Strong analytical and results-oriented mindset

• At least Upper-Intermediate level in both written and spoken English

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation)

• Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)

• Experience with performance testing of ML/AI workloads

• Understanding of video processing pipelines and real-time systems

• Familiarity with SQL/NoSQL database performance tuning

• Understanding of network protocols and cross-region communication
