Job Description
About Jet Excellence
We are a fast-growing fleet charter operator redefining private aviation through data-driven efficiency, modern aircraft, and owner-focused profitability. With a commitment to trust, safety, and service excellence, we deliver tailored charter solutions and seamless travel experiences supported by a modernized fleet and nationwide reach.
The Role
We are seeking a Operations Automation Engineer to partner with our Chief of Staff in designing, building, and deploying software that empowers every department — from sales and maintenance to HR and finance — to work smarter and faster.
This role bridges engineering and operations: you’ll talk to internal teams to uncover pain points, architect reliable solutions, and build the tools and automations that make our business run beautifully.
The ideal candidate is a Software Engineer who likes solving business problems. You’ll code, deploy, and own real systems that employees rely on every day — not prototypes, but production-grade solutions that transform how work gets done.
If you love translating messy, manual processes into elegant software — and you take pride in seeing people’s workflows get simpler because of something you built — this is your kind of role.
Key Responsibilities
Discovery & Design
Partner with teams across sales, operations, maintenance, finance, and HR to map workflows and uncover inefficiencies.
Translate business problems into technical solutions — deciding what to build, what to integrate, and what to streamline.
Audit data sources and evaluate system reliability, accuracy, and gaps.
Document and present technical requirements and architecture proposals clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Build & Ship
Build internal tools and automation systems using Python, JavaScript, SQL, or other best-fit languages.
Design robust data pipelines and ETL processes to unify and transport data between multiple systems.
Develop and integrate APIs connecting internal and third-party platforms.
Create internal dashboards, reports, and visualizations that surface the right information to decision-makers.
Automate repetitive workflows through custom code or platforms like Power Automate or Zapier.
Maintain & Improve
Monitor, debug, and continuously improve production systems for performance and reliability.
Refactor and rebuild systems as business processes evolve.
Maintain thorough documentation and train employees on new workflows.
Stay current with emerging tools — and propose new ideas worth testing.
Qualifications
Independently built and shipped at least one production application or automation that you personally deployed to production and that real users rely on regularly (not a class project, prototype, or minor contribution to a larger team-owned product).
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience)
Proficiency in Python for application development, data automation, and system integration.
Strong SQL skills — ability to design schemas, write complex queries, and optimize database performance.
Experience with databases and data infrastructure (e.g., PostgreSQL, BigQuery, or similar).
Familiarity with API design and consumption — REST, webhooks, and third-party integrations.
Solid understanding of software engineering practices (Git, testing, code review, maintainability).
Excellent communication skills; comfortable translating technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
Ability to navigate ambiguity, self-direct, and deliver in a fast-paced environment.
Nice-to-Haves
Experience with web frameworks such as Flask, FastAPI, Django, or React.
Knowledge of cloud platforms like Google Cloud, AWS, or Azure.
Familiarity with data orchestration tools (Airflow, dbt, Fivetran, etc.).
Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
Experience with workflow automation tools (Power Automate, Zapier, Make, Integromat).
Background in aviation, logistics, or another operationally complex industry.
Key Competencies
Resourceful & Tenacious: You don’t wait for perfect conditions — you figure it out, test it, and ship.
Curious & Conversational: You genuinely enjoy learning how the business operates and diving into the details.
Builder Mindset: You iterate fast and aren’t afraid to ship version 1.0 when it’s 80% right.
Ownership Mentality: You take full accountability for what you build — from deployment to bug fixes.
Pragmatic Perfection: You know when a solution needs polish and when “good enough” keeps the business moving.
