Job Role: ETL Automation Test Engineer
Job Description
The Automation Test Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and executing automated test suites for Finance Reporting
platforms, ensuring accuracy, reliability, and stability of financial data pipelines, dashboards, and reporting applications.
This role requires strong technical expertise in test automation frameworks as well as the flexibility to contribute to small development enhancements, including scripting, minor feature updates, and optimizing existing components.
The ideal candidate is diligent, collaborative, and comfortable working in a fast-paced data and reporting environment that supports
critical finance processes.
Key Responsibilities
1. Test Automation
Design, develop, and maintain robust automated test suites for UI, API, ETL, and reporting applications.
Implement automation frameworks using tools such as Selenium, Playwright, PyTest, JUnit, TestNG, or similar.
Automate regression test cases and integrate them into CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, etc.).
Ensure test cases validate financial calculations, reconciliations, data accuracy, and reporting logic.
Analyze test failures, diagnose root causes, and work with engineering teams to address defects.
2. Manual & Functional Testing
Conduct manual validation of financial reports, dashboards, and data transformations when needed.
Review requirements, create test scenarios, and ensure coverage for all finance reporting use cases.
Perform end‑to‑end testing of data pipelines feeding into financial statements, P&L, balance sheets, and regulatory reports.
3. Small Development Enhancements
Develop minor enhancements or fixes to existing reporting scripts, automation utilities, or micro‑features.
Contribute to code changes in Python, SQL, Java, or the team’s preferred tech stack.
Support optimization of ETL/ELT jobs, reporting templates, and data extraction logic.
Build internal tools or scripts to improve QA productivity and reporting accuracy.
4. Collaboration & Delivery
Work closely with Finance SMEs, Data Engineers, BI Developers, and Product Owners.
Support agile ceremonies including sprint planning, grooming, and retrospectives.
Participate in release management, ensuring automated tests gate deployments effectively.
Document automation design, test cases, defects, and release notes clearly.
Required Skills & Experience
Technical Skills
• Proficiency in Control-M for scheduling and automation.
• Strong experience with any one of the test automation tools/frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, TestNG, PyTest).
• Strong SQL skills for data validation, reconciliation, and backend testing.
• Familiarity with BI/reporting tools (Power BI, Tableau, SSRS) is a plus.
• Exposure to finance data, reporting logic, or regulatory reporting is highly desirable.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices.
• Experience in financial or risk reporting environments.
• Experience in test automation, preferably in data, analytics, or finance environments.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
• Familiarity with data pipelines (AWS Glue, Matillion, Snowflake, or similar).
• Knowledge of financial reporting cycles and metrics (e.g., closing, FP&A, audit).
• ISTQB or relevant test certifications.
Soft Skills
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail—especially important for financial accuracy.
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams including Finance, Engineering, and Analytics.
• Good communication skills to explain defects, logic, and test outcomes clearly.
• High ownership and adaptability, with willingness to take on both QA and minor development tasks.
