Get to Know our Team:

In Agoda’s Back End Engineering department, we build the scalable, fault-tolerant systems and APIs that host our core business logic. Our systems cover all major areas of our business: inventory and pricing, product information, customer data, communications, partner data, booking systems, payments, and more. These mission-critical systems change frequently with dozens of releases per day, so we must employ state-of-the-art CI/CD and testing techniques in order to make sure everything works without any downtime. We also ensure that our systems are self-healing, responding gracefully to extreme loads or unexpected input. In order to accomplish this, we use state-of-the-art languages like Scala and Go, data technologies like Kafka and Aerospike, and agile development practices. Most importantly though, we hire great people from all around the world and empower them to be successful. Whether it’s building new projects like Flights and Packages or reimagining our existing business, you’ll make a big impact as part of the Back End Engineering team.

The Opportunity:

Agoda is hiring experienced Software Developers to work on high-scale, mission-critical systems focused on the design and development of APIs that support millions of user search requests each day. This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy solving complex technical challenges, building reliable distributed systems, and influencing architecture at scale.

In this Role, you'll get to

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Serve as a technical architect, mentor, and engineering leader, helping teams choose the right technologies and design approaches

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Continuously enhance system architecture and contribute to building scalable, maintainable software

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Play a significant role in advancing Agile and Scrum engineering practices

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Collaborate closely with backend, client, server, and infrastructure teams to deliver the best end-to-end technical solutions

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Proactively identify opportunities to improve products, code quality, architecture, and development workflows

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Write high-quality, efficient code while helping other engineers raise their coding standards

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Drive key technical and architectural decisions across the organization

What You’ll Need to Succeed

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">10+ years of experience building performance-critical applications in production environments using Scala, Java, Kotlin, Python, Go, or C#

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Proven experience leading projects, technical initiatives, and/or engineering teams, with full ownership of the systems involved

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Hands-on experience with data platforms such as SQL, Cassandra, or Hadoop, and a solid understanding of selecting the right data solution for different application needs

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Strong knowledge of algorithms and data structures

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Demonstrated excellence in software development and coding

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">A proven ability to improve team productivity and effectiveness through KPI-driven engineering practices

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Strong software architecture skills, with experience driving architectural decisions within a team

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">A passion for software craftsmanship, continuous learning, and engineering excellence

• p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Excellent written and verbal English communication skills

It’s Great If You Have

• Experience with Scrum/Agile development methodologies

• Experience building large-scale distributed products

• Core engineering infrastructure tools like Git for source control, TeamCity for Continuous Integration and Puppet for deployment

• Hands-on experience working with technology like queueing systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, MSMQ), Spark, Hadoop, NoSQL (Cassandra, MongoDB), Play framework, Akka library
