About Incard
Incard’s mission is to build the financial operating system for entrepreneurs.
We are focused on creating a system where business banking, financial tools, and application logic are coordinated into a single control layer.
Through the app store, entrepreneurs and developers can build industry-specific functionality as their business evolves.
Our team is small, highly motivated, and focused on engineering excellence. We operate with a flat organizational structure. All employees are expected to be hands-on and to contribute directly to the company’s mission. Leadership is given to those who show initiative and consistently deliver excellence. All engineers are expected to have strong communication skills. They should be able to concisely and accurately share knowledge with their teammates.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re looking for a Lead Backend Engineer to own Incard’s Analytics & Integrations domain.
You’ll lead the squad responsible for financial data ingestion, analytics architecture, and integrations with e-commerce platforms, banks, PSPs, and third-party services. This role sits at the core of how data flows through Incard, powering dashboards, insights, forecasting, and AI-driven features.
This is a high-impact, systems-heavy role ideal for a backend leader who enjoys data correctness, scale, and developer-grade APIs.
What You’ll Do
Own the Analytics & Integrations Domain
• Act as the technical owner for analytics pipelines and external integrations
• Design and operate systems that ingest, normalise, and expose financial data
• Own domain boundaries, schemas, and long-term data architecture
System Design & Architecture
• Architect scalable, distributed systems using Elixir and TypeScript
• Design high-throughput ingestion pipelines for e-commerce, banks, and PSPs
• Build analytics-ready data models and performant query patterns using SQL
• Design APIs that are predictable, composable, and developer-friendly
Team Leadership & Delivery Ownership
• Lead and manage a squad of up to 5 backend engineers
• Own your team’s tickets, delivery, and code quality
• Run daily stand-ups and drive execution within the squad
• While priorities are shaped with the Tech Lead, CTO, and Product Owner, you own day-to-day task management and delivery
• Maintain high engineering standards through reviews, mentoring, and hands-on leadership
Execution & Delivery
• Lead backend delivery from design to production
• Break down complex initiatives into clear technical plans and milestones
• Support engineers with fast decisions, architectural guidance, and unblockers
• Ensure features ship reliably without sacrificing correctness or performance
Reliability, Data Quality & Observability
• Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and traceability across pipelines
• Build safeguards around retries, idempotency, backfills, and reconciliation
• Design observability around ingestion lag, data freshness, and correctness
• Partner closely with Product, Data, and AI teams to ensure analytics fitness
Collaboration & Influence
• Collaborate closely with Product Owners, Frontend, Mobile, Data, and AI teams
• Represent the Analytics & Integrations domain in technical discussions
• Contribute to shared backend standards, tooling, and long-term architecture
What We’re Looking For
• 7+ years of backend engineering experience, including leadership responsibilities
• Strong experience with Elixir and TypeScript in production systems
• High proficiency in SQL and data modelling for analytics workloads
• Proven experience architecting scalable, distributed systems
• Experience building integrations with external APIs (e-commerce, banks, PSPs, SaaS)
• Strong understanding of data pipelines, ingestion patterns, and API design
• Ability to design systems engineers trust and product teams can build on
• Clear communicator who aligns engineering, product, and stakeholders
Nice to Have
• Experience with event-driven architectures or stream processing
• Experience with financial analytics or accounting data
• Familiarity with data warehouses or OLAP patterns
• Experience designing public or partner-facing APIs
• Prior experience developing services in Go (Golang).
Mindset We Look For
• Owner mentality — you treat data and integrations as core infrastructure
• Obsession with data quality, correctness, and long-term maintainability
• Pragmatic architect — strong opinions, loosely held
• Calm under pressure when pipelines or integrations fail
• Low ego, high standards, and strong collaboration instincts
• Startup DNA — bias to action, accountability, no bureaucracy
Benefits:
• Competitive cash-based compensation
• Incard stock options
• 25 days of paid time off per year, plus bank holidays and your birthday off
• Global health insurance and unlimited paid sick leave
