We are seeking an experienced Senior Engineering Manager to lead the development and evolution of platform management and automation systems that enable seamless deployment, operation, and observability of distributed database clusters across cloud and on-premises environments. In this role, you will guide engineering teams responsible for building automation frameworks, Kubernetes-based orchestration tools, and monitoring systems that ensure reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency.
The position combines strong technical leadership with people management responsibilities, requiring the ability to drive architectural decisions, mentor engineering teams, and align technical initiatives with broader product and business goals. You will work closely with product management, site reliability engineering, and platform teams to deliver a robust operational experience for customers running large-scale distributed systems.
The role also involves defining long-term technical strategies for cluster lifecycle management, automation, and observability while ensuring high engineering standards and predictable delivery. This is an excellent opportunity for a leader who is passionate about cloud-native technologies, distributed systems, and building platforms that power mission-critical applications.
Requirements:
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and mentor engineering teams focused on platform automation, cluster lifecycle management, and monitoring systems.
• Oversee the design and development of Kubernetes-based operators and orchestration frameworks for distributed platforms.
• Spearhead the creation and implementation of automation systems that facilitate the deployment, scaling, and upkeep of distributed clusters.
• Establish engineering best practices concerning system reliability, scalability, security, and maintainability.
• Perform design reviews and assist teams in building high-quality, production-ready software.
• Collaborate with product management, site reliability engineering (SRE), and infrastructure teams to ensure technical solutions align with product strategy and operational objectives.
• Develop and improve observability frameworks that offer monitoring, logging, and performance insights.
• Assist teams in addressing complex challenges related to distributed systems and eliminating technical obstacles.
• Define engineering roadmaps and monitor progress against strategic goals and operational metrics.
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement, technical excellence, and knowledge sharing among engineering teams.
• Ensure effective collaboration across globally distributed teams and stakeholders.
• Participate in architectural decision-making while remaining actively involved in providing technical guidance when needed.
What Makes You a Great Fit
• Over 10 years of experience in software engineering, with at least 3 years in leadership or managerial roles.
• Demonstrated experience in leading teams that develop Kubernetes Operators, controllers, or platform automation tools.
• Strong programming skills in Golang, Java, or Python.
• In-depth understanding of Kubernetes architecture and the management of stateful workloads throughout their lifecycle.
• Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools like Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, or comparable platforms.
• Robust background in distributed systems and development of large-scale backend platforms.
• Experience designing or managing cloud-native infrastructure and containerized platforms.
• Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
• Strong architectural insights and problem-solving skills in complex distributed environments.
• Excellent communication skills and stakeholder management capabilities.
• Experience managing engineering OKRs, project timelines, and inter-team coordination.
• Ability to work effectively with global teams and cross-functional stakeholders.
