Arcadion is undertaking a large-scale modernization initiative to transition complex VMware estates into next-generation Microsoft Hyper-V clusters powered by SCVMM.

We are seeking an elite Hyper-V / SCVMM Migration Specialist to join our engineering force and support the continuous delivery of VMware-to-Hyper-V migration pipelines across multiple customer environments.

This is a contractor position, ideal for a highly-skilled virtualization engineer who thrives in deep technical work, structured delivery, and iterative modernization programs. For the right candidate, this position has the potential to evolve into a full-time engineering role within our advanced infrastructure practice.

Role Overview

You will be responsible for executing and optimizing the technical workflows required to migrate production server clusters, virtual workloads, SAN-attached systems, and data centre workloads from VMware vSphere to Microsoft Hyper-V environments, managed centrally with System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM).

You will collaborate with Arcadion architects and infrastructure leads to build repeatable migration patterns, stabilize cluster performance, and ensure hypervisor parity is maintained during transition.

Key Responsibilities

Migration Delivery & Engineering

Execute end-to-end migrations from VMware vSphere/ESXi to Hyper-V clusters using SCVMM migration tooling, PowerShell automations, and custom migration workflows.

Assist in the staged build-out of new Hyper-V clusters, including host provisioning, clustering configuration, storage integration, networking, and failover testing.

Validate compatibility, perform pre-flight checks, assess VM readiness, and troubleshoot failed or partially completed migrations.

Configure and optimize SCVMM, including fabric resources, logical networks, storage classifications, host groups, and templates.

Cluster Operations & Optimization

Perform health checks, cluster validations, remediation tasks, and long-term performance tuning.

Support storage provisioning (NetApp, Dell PowerStore, or similar SAN architectures) for Hyper-V workloads.

Address virtualization networking (VLANs, trunking, NIC teaming, vSwitch configurations).

Ensure proper failover cluster operations, patch management, and lifecycle maintenance.

Automation & Repeatability

Contribute to developing standardized migration playbooks, scripts, and reusable runbooks.

Assist in building automation frameworks for discovery, migration scheduling, status tracking, and reporting.

Help refine Arcadion’s VMware-to-Hyper-V migration methodology for multicluster, multisite environments.

Stakeholder Collaboration

Work closely with Arcadion architects, SCVMM specialists, and client-side IT teams.

Provide clear documentation, migration notes, rollback procedures, and technical guidance.

Participate in daily standups, migration windows, and scheduled cutovers.

Required Skills & Experience

Core Technical Expertise

Expert-level Hyper-V experience (clustered environments, failover clustering, storage integration, performance tuning).

Advanced SCVMM configuration & administration, including fabric management, library resources, VM templates, host lifecycle workflows.

Strong VMware background (ESXi, vCenter, vMotion, VM tools, networking, storage).

Hands-on experience with VM conversion tools, V2V patterns, or scripted migration workflows.

Deep familiarity with SAN technologies (NetApp, PowerStore, or equivalent), iSCSI/Fibre Channel, and multi-pathing.

Ability to troubleshoot complex virtualization issues across compute, storage, and network layers.

Supporting Competencies

Fluent in PowerShell and automation-driven administration.

Experience in enterprise datacentre migrations or hypervisor re-platforming.

Strong documentation, communication, and customer-facing professionalism.

Ability to work flexible hours during migration windows.

Nice-to-Have Skills

Experience with SCVMM API integrations or automation pipelines.

Familiarity with Windows Admin Center, Azure Stack HCI, or hybrid-cloud virtualization.

Exposure to GPU virtualization environments (NVIDIA GRID) a plus.

Background working with MSPs, enterprise infrastructure teams, or multi-tenant environments.

Contract Structure

6–12 month contract, hourly or project-based depending on availability and expertise.

Migration work will occur iteratively across multiple environments—steady, predictable workload.
