Introducing the Trainline Finance Team 👋
The Finance team sits at the heart of Trainline, helping the business understand where it has been, where it is going, and how to make smarter, faster decisions along the way. Within Finance, the FP&A team acts as the company’s financial intelligence engine, translating complex business performance into clear insight that supports strategic decision-making across the organisation. From booking trends and commercial performance to marketing efficiency and long-term planning, the team partners closely with leaders across the business to turn data into meaningful action.
As Head of FP&A, you will play a critical leadership role during a period of transformation and growth. You will lead the evolution of our planning, forecasting, and performance management capabilities while continuing to deliver high-quality financial insight and operational excellence. Working closely with senior stakeholders across Finance, Data, and the Executive team, you will help shape how the business plans, measures, and communicates performance in a fast-paced, data-rich environment.
In this role as the Head of FP&A, you will...🚄
• Lead and develop a high-performing FP&A team, fostering a collaborative, commercially minded, and insight-driven culture that supports both delivery and development
• Own and evolve the end-to-end budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning processes, ensuring financial targets are aligned to business strategy and operational priorities
• Drive the transformation of FP&A processes, tools, and ways of working, building stakeholder engagement and supporting teams through change with clarity and confidence
• Champion process improvement, automation, and the adoption of AI-enabled solutions to improve the quality, efficiency, and scalability of financial planning and reporting
• Deliver clear, forward-looking financial insight and performance analysis that supports decision-making at Executive and functional leadership level
• Oversee monthly management reporting and financial commentary, ensuring outputs are accurate, commercially meaningful, and tailored appropriately for different audiences
• Partner closely with Data and Analytics teams to improve the accessibility, consistency, and quality of financial reporting and business performance insight
• Act as a trusted senior Finance partner across the business, proactively identifying risks and opportunities, supporting investor-related activity where needed, and influencing decisions through strong financial storytelling
We'd love to hear from you if you have...🔍
• Significant experience leading FP&A teams within a technology, marketplace, consumer, or other fast-paced commercial environment, with the ability to balance strategic thinking and operational delivery
• Strong experience leading finance transformation initiatives, including process redesign, systems implementation, or operating model change, while bringing teams and stakeholders on the journey
• Expertise in financial planning, forecasting, and driver-based modelling, with the ability to translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insight for non-finance audiences
• Strong commercial judgement and a deep understanding of how business performance, customer behaviour, and operational decisions translate into financial outcomes
• Experience building trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, with the confidence and communication skills to influence at Executive level across a broad range of audiences
• A collaborative and people-focused leadership style, with experience developing high-performing teams and creating an environment where individuals can grow and succeed
• Comfort working in evolving, fast-moving environments where priorities can shift, and the ability to navigate ambiguity with resilience and sound judgement
• A recognised accounting qualification such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent, and ideally experience with modern FP&A tooling such as Pigment or similar platforms
