Quick Summary
Develop scalable pipelines for building high-fidelity, simulation-ready 3D terrain data from diverse GIS datasets
Required Skills
Job Description
At OneArc, our team builds the world’s most advanced planetary-scale digital twins for NATO and its allies. We are looking for a Geospatial Workflow Engineer to join our Mantle Product Team.
Your goal isn't just to "make maps", it's to build an automated factory that will help our customers transform massive, diverse GIS datasets into high-fidelity, simulation-ready 3D terrain. You are the bridge between raw spatial data and the virtual battlefield
What Success Looks Like
Scalable Pipelines: You design reusable workflow templates that allow us to process terrain data from any corner of the globe with speed and consistency.
Automation First: You’ve successfully replaced manual, "click-heavy" GIS tasks with robust, automated data pipelines.
Data Reliability: You are the go-to person for diagnosing why a dataset isn't rendering correctly and can pivot quickly to solve complex processing or format issues.
Knowledge Sharing: Your workflows are so well-documented and logical that other engineers and customers can run them with minimal friction.
What You’ll Do
Design & Automate: Build and maintain geospatial processing templates using tools like TerraTools, Tcl, Python, and GDAL.
Data Transformation: Convert diverse GIS inputs (vector, raster, 3D models) into formats optimized for simulation engines.
System Troubleshooting: Debug workflow and data issues across both Windows and Linux environments.
Collaborate: Work closely with software engineers to ensure the Mantle platform supports the evolving needs of real-world geospatial data.
Best Practices: Establish standards for data handling to ensure our terrain products meet high-performance and accuracy benchmarks.
What You Bring
Experience: 3–5+ years of hands-on experience in GIS development, spatial data engineering, or terrain generation.
Technical Toolkit: Strong proficiency in writing scripts for automation and a deep understanding of GIS tools in desktop and cloud environments.
Problem Solving: A knack for turning messy, inconsistent geospatial data into structured, repeatable outputs.
Spatial Data Integrity: A strong grasp of coordinate systems, projections, and data formats, with a focus on how these elements impact the performance and accuracy of large-scale 3D environments.
Communication: The ability to document technical workflows clearly so they can be scaled across the organization.
Nice to Have
Familiarity with 3D terrain engines (VBS4, Unreal, Unity) or simulation standards.
Experience with version control (Git) and collaborative development.
A background in defense simulation or environmental modeling.
Who This Role Is Ideal For
GIS Developer or Solutions Engineer
Geospatial Data Engineer or Mapping Systems Engineer
Digital Twin Specialist or Terrain Pipeline Engineer
GIS Analyst or Remote Sensing Scientist
…and you are the person who finds it more satisfying to build a script that processes 1,000 maps than to manually edit a single one.
What you will get:
Work-Life Balance: 14 paid holidays, plus a starting vacation tier of 15 days (increasing with tenure).
Full Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, STD/LTD, and FSA.
Perks: Voluntary pet insurance, identity theft protection, and TriNet discount programs.
Hybrid Flexibility: A collaborative Pittsburgh-based office environment with a flexible schedule: 3 days in-office teamwork and 2 days remote deep-work time.
Global Impact & Travel: OneArc is a truly international team. You’ll have opportunities to collaborate with colleagues in Europe and Australia, with the potential for international travel to support system deployments and field testing at NATO-aligned sites worldwide.
