We are seeking a Director of Business Development to lead revenue generation and client acquisition within a general contractor environment, with full ownership of pipeline development from initial opportunity identification through contract award.
This role is focused on securing new commercial construction projects across private and public sectors. The position requires deep construction industry knowledge, active involvement in bid strategy, and direct ownership of the sales process — from early client engagement through deal execution. This is a hands-on leadership role for a seasoned construction sales professional who brings both market relationships and technical fluency to the table.
Responsibilities
• Build and manage a robust pipeline of commercial construction opportunities through strategic outreach, networking, and industry partnerships
• Identify and pursue private and public sector construction projects aligned with company capabilities and growth objectives
• Lead client-facing conversations around project feasibility, preliminary budgeting, and construction methodology
• Review and interpret RFPs, drawings, and specifications to develop informed, competitive bid positioning
• Prepare and present comprehensive proposals including scope, pricing, and value engineering strategies
• Source and qualify subcontractors across relevant trades to support accurate and competitive bid development
• Lead internal bid strategy sessions and collaborate cross-functionally to assemble winning proposals
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with developers, owners, construction managers, and public sector decision-makers
• Coordinate with project managers, architects, and engineers to align on scope and expectations prior to award
• Lead contract negotiations and facilitate a smooth, well-documented transition from business development to project execution
Requirements:
• 5+ years of experience in business development or sales within commercial construction or general contracting
• Demonstrated track record of winning commercial and/or government construction projects
• Proven experience responding to RFPs and developing detailed construction bids and proposals
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and construction contract documents
• Established network within commercial construction, real estate development, or public sector markets
• Hands-on experience working with subcontractors and assembling competitive bid pricing
• General contractor or construction services background required
• Direct deal ownership experience required — candidates with exclusively support or coordination roles will not be considered
