Job Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Database Migration Consultant to lead the end-to-end migration from SAP SQL Anywhere to PostgreSQL. This role carries full ownership of migration quality, including schema modernization, data accuracy, performance optimization, and production-grade validation. The consultant will work closely with development teams to ensure seamless integration with GeoGraphix applications and supporting frameworks.

Job Responsibilities:

Analyze and understand the existing SAP SQL Anywhere database architecture and schema, including integrations with GeoGraphix applications.

Migrate SQL Anywhere–specific proprietary constructs to ANSI SQL compatible with PostgreSQL.

Modernize and optimize database schemas by removing trivial views and triggers, and tuning tables, indexes, and constraints for PostgreSQL performance.

Design and build migration tools, scripts, and services to migrate existing GeoGraphix projects from SQL Anywhere to PostgreSQL.

Collaborate with development teams to integrate PostgreSQL with the GeoGraphix Data Access Layer, Data Ingestion framework, and application layers.

Migration Validation & Testing (Core Responsibility):

Own validation of migration outcomes, ensuring data correctness, referential integrity, schema consistency, and functional equivalence.

Develop a comprehensive migration test plan covering validation scope, edge cases, and risk areas.

Design and implement repeatable validation suites and automated test scripts with integration-test–level rigor.

Reconcile and compare source and target datasets to identify data loss, truncation, type mismatches, or semantic differences.

Provide auditable evidence of migration accuracy and document known limitations or deviations clearly.

Required Skills:

Strong expertise in relational database design and large-scale database migrations.

Hands-on experience with SAP SQL Anywhere / SQL Server and PostgreSQL.

Proficiency in ANSI SQL and database performance tuning.

Strong skills in building migration tooling, automation, and validation frameworks.

Excellent analytical, documentation, and cross-team collaboration skills.

Experience:

Proven experience leading or owning database migration projects end-to-end.

Demonstrated experience in migration validation, data reconciliation, and quality assurance.

Prior experience working with complex enterprise or geospatial data platforms is a plus.

Education/Qualification:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (preferred).

Relevant database or cloud certifications are a plus.
