Data Engineer (BI Engineer + Advanced SQL + Big data) (1-2 years experience)

This position is part of the Data Insights Studio (DIS) team and will report to the Manager. Based out of the Global Shared Services center in Bengaluru, you will support VCA's regional visualization requirements while collaborating closely with both regional and global teams to deliver strong client outcomes.          

Primary Responsibilities:

• Demonstrate strong data interpretation skills and the ability to present information using effective visualization techniques to deliver meaningful, actionable insights.
• Design and implement data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes from multiple sources into a centralized data warehouse or data lake, ensuring high‑quality, well‑organized, and easily retrievable data. 
• Develop and maintain interactive dashboards and reports using BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI.
• Adhere to quality assurance standards and best practices, with proficiency in testing methodologies, tools, and debugging. Lead bug triage by identifying, documenting, and prioritizing issues based on business impact.
• Optimize dashboard and report performance by improving data processing, refining queries, and enhancing data models for reliable, efficient, and timely analysis. 
• Automate BI processes wherever possible, including data extraction, transformation, visualization, testing, and deployment.
• Ensure the security and integrity of data and BI solutions by implementing appropriate security controls and adhering to relevant standards and regulations. 
• Maintain comprehensive, up‑to‑date documentation of BI processes, methodologies, and solution instructions, ensuring accessibility for relevant stakeholders. 
• Deploy dashboards and BI solutions in alignment with user requirements and VISA standards.

This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in the office will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.  ​

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree, OR 1-2 years of relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications

•Associate: 1-2 years of work experience

•Proven experience as a BI Engineer / data visualization analyst or similar role for 2+ years

•Familiarity with shared services, consulting, financial services is a strong plus.

•Certifications in data visualization tools like Tableau Certified Data Analyst is a plus.

Technical skills Must have

•Proficiency in data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, QlikView, looker, D3.js

•Expertise in LOD (Level of Detail), DAX (Data Analysis Expressions), Power Query, M language, Tableau Prep to create measures and transform data.

•Advanced proficiency in SQL, including a deep understanding of queries, joins, stored procedures, triggers, and views, as well as experience in optimizing SQL for improved performance and efficiency.

•Comfortable with creating and maintaining database schemas, indexes, and writing complex SQL scripts for data analysis and extraction

•Ability to create prototype using UI/UX tools such as Adobe XD, Figma, Proto.io, Marvel

Good to have

•Proficiency in data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, QlikView, looker, D3.js

•Experience in CICD/ Data Architectures/ Pipelines/ version control /Code Management.

•Experience with SQL for extracting, aggregating and processing big data Pipelines using Hadoop, EMR & NoSQL Databases

•Understanding of pipeline tools such as Apache Airflow , Apache Kafka, AWS Glue, Google Cloud Dataflow and Apache Beam

•Experience in interacting with data warehouses and data lakes, utilizing tools like pyspark, Apache Hadoop Amazon Redshift, snowflake and Amazon S3 to ingest and extract data for insights

•Continually stays updated with the latest trends and advancements in data visualization techniques and tools.

•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for managing relationships with stakeholders, strong presentation skills to effectively communicate data insights and visualizations to diverse audiences, with the ability to tailor the presentation to the audience's level of expertise.

•Ability to plan, prioritize, and manage time effectively, keep track of tasks and deadlines, maintain a tidy and systematic work environment, and coordinate resources to achieve goals in a timely and efficient manner.

•Take full responsibility for the BI projects, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of insights, and addressing any issues or inaccuracies in the data promptly and effectively.

•Ensure flawless execution by continuously experimenting with new methodologies, learning from past mistakes to improve processes, and focusing on delivering seamless, efficient, and accurate data analysis and reporting.
