ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a results-driven Assistant Controller to help build and scale a high-performing accounting function. This role will play a pivotal role in designing streamlined, scalable processes, strengthening internal controls, and delivering timely, accurate reporting and business insights as we grow.
As Assistant Controller, you will partner closely with the Controller to modernize day-to-day accounting and the close – reducing manual work through automation, improving data quality, and ensuring policies and workflows are consistently applied. You will bring strong operational rigor and technical accounting judgment to keep the books clean, issues surfaced early, and decisions well-documented.
You are a builder who brings structure, clarity, and follow-through – balancing speed with discipline – so leaders can trust the numbers and make decisions with confidence.
Salary Range: $100,000 – $120,000 CAD annually, based on experience and qualifications.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the monthly close process, delivering accurate journal entries, reconciliations, financial reporting, and commentary in a timely manner.
Lead external audit and review processes as primary liaison, ensuring timely and efficient completion.
Oversee accounting operations, including accounts payable, credit card programs, accounts receivable, payroll processing, and day-to-day banking activity.
Establish and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard assets and maintain audit-ready documentation.
Manage tax compliance activities, including GST/HST filings, payroll tax compliance, and required regulatory filings.
Manage cash and banking execution, including cash monitoring, ACH/wires, deposits, and bank reconciliations.
Lead supplier costing, including cost analysis and the implementation of optimized costing systems and procedures.
Lead administration of finance systems (e.g., Xero and related tools), including access controls, integrations, and approvals workflows.
Optimize and administer the finance tech stack with IT/Operations (e.g., Dext, Plooto, Float, ApprovalMax, payroll, billing), ensuring clean integrations and data flows.
Drive continuous improvement through process redesign, automation/AI, and system enhancements to improve efficiency and cost effectiveness.
Lead special projects and other duties as needed to support finance and organizational goals.
