Advanced Lead Engineer – Virtual Environments

Who will you be working with? 

The Wabtec Simteam is a global, focused group of experts dedicated to providing high fidelity, deterministic, reliable simulation environments for the latest in locomotive technologies. The Wabtec locomotive product line spans 20,000 locomotives globally and hundreds of hardware combinations. The Wabtec Simteam is a key part of the Locomotive Software development & release pipeline. Our team interfaces with all levels of the business as we engage with diverse teams to help them speed up deployment of new locomotive technologies. We are dedicated to growing each team member to having a systems mindset, having a broad view of the product, but also the ability to go deep with specific projects. 

 

How will you make a difference?  

This role will be supporting both local and global software test engineers using the Wabtec Simulator Lab in Contagem. You will interface with these engineers to understand their test requirements and support in setting up the Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) simulators with existing customer locomotive simulations or developing the application/platform software for new locomotive simulations. This role will focus more heavily on developing / supporting the Virtual Simulator platform (vSIM) product. The vSIM product uses many of the same application software as the HIL, but is hosted in a cloud-based architecture. This exposure to the full Wabtec simulator product line will quickly grow this role into a vital contributor in our team. The Brazil Simulator team is connected to the United States Simulator team directly and will interface daily. 

 

What do we want to know about you?  

• Proven experience working in Software Engineering roles. 

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, computer engineering, or electrical engineering. 

• Working knowledge of both software design and object-oriented programming techniques. 

• Ability to create automated scripts using languages such as Python, Bash, or Perl. 

• Proficiency with virtualization technologies, including VMware, VirtualBox, QEMU, or Docker.  

• Experience in developing real-time or virtual systems within LINUX environments. 

• Hands-on experience programming in C and C++, with a focus on developing Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI) using the QT framework. 

• Familiarity with version control processes, especially using Git. 

• Experience developing device drivers and working at the Board Support Package (BSP) level. 

• Involvement in software or system architecture design and managing release processes. 

• Understanding of Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS), such as RT-LINUX, UNIX, or QNX-based systems. 

• Knowledge of communication protocols including ARCNET, CAN, RS-232, and Ethernet. 

• Advanced/Fluent English.

 

What will your typical day look like?  

• Work on HIL or vSIM software projects, collaborate with local / US Simteam 

• Communicate with remote engineers for support calls for vSIM users 

• Communicate with local & remote engineers about HIL configuration requirements for testing 

• Setup HIL based on configuration requirements
