Job Description
Arlington Heights Memorial Library seeks an enthusiastic Youth Services Librarian to join our dynamic Youth Services team and collaboratively develop and deliver creative, hands-on, relevant, and adaptive services for our diverse youth customers, birth–teen, and their families.
In this position, you will provide reference, readers’ advisory, resources for homework, and answers to a variety of quirky questions through interactions in Kids’ World and the Hub (teen space) service areas. Through programming and outreach events, you will engage young customers and caregivers, showcasing and connecting participants with library and community resources.
As Youth Librarian you will:
Develop, promote and facilitate innovative programs to support learning and a love of reading to meet the expressed and anticipated needs of the community’s youth
Collaborate with other departments and community organizations
Provide reference services and monitor youth areas, Kids’ World and the Hub (teen space)
Participate in regular story time programming rotation
Requirements & Skills
One to three years of experience in a library or customer service setting
Experience in developing and presenting interactive programming for individuals and group audiences
Knowledge of adolescent development and learning needs
Interest in working with Youth Services audiences (ages 0-18)
Enthusiasm and knowledge regarding youth literature
Interest in providing services to underserved youth and families
The preferred candidate must also demonstrate the ability to work effectively with staff and customers in alignment with Our Culture and IDEA.
Education
Master of Library Science degree
Hours and Scheduling
Part Time, non-exempt position, 25 hours/week. Primarily Monday-Friday weekdays, with 1-2 evening shifts weekly and weekend shift rotations. Must be flexible for scheduling to present programs, support events and serve at public service points.
