The Opportunity 

The Youth & Family Engagement Worker participates as a member of the Foundry Langley team. The Youth & Family Engagement Worker helps youth and young adults with service navigation and resource information and connects them with Foundry and/or community resources. The Youth & Family Engagement Worker will be available on the floor during drop in times supporting youth and families with service navigation, orientation to the centre and supporting the lounge. The Youth & Family Engagement Worker will work collaboratively with the Program Coordinator, to ensure the organization of key center initiatives, including the food pantry, hygiene product distribution, clothing closet, community events, wellness activities, volunteer coordination, and advisory committee support.

POSITION: Permanent, Full-Time
HOURS OF WORK: 37.5 hours per week
WORK SCHEDULE: Monday to Wednesday: 11:30am-7:30pm
                                 Thursday, Friday: 9-5pm.
    
SALARY RANGE: CSSEA Wage Grid 12: $30.18 - $33.49hourly (depending on experience and qualification)
BENEFITS: Extended health, dental, vision care, Group TFSA/RSP
VACATION: As per ESSS policy

Some Key Duties and Responsibilities:
•    Engage and build positive relationships with youth and families accessing Foundry Langley during drop in who may not be engaged with community supports.
•    Support the orientation and intake of new participants during drop in and support youth accessing social programming.
•    Facilitates advisory meetings as needed and brings forward recommendations.
•    To work collaboratively with the Program Coordinator, to ensure the organization of key center initiatives, including the food pantry, hygiene product distribution, and clothing closet.
•    Support Program Coordinator in onboarding, overseeing and organizing centre volunteers for social programming. 
•    To work collaboratively with the Program Coordinator to develop and implement wellness programs at the Centre and in community. 
•    Documents, implements, and provides input into the evaluation of the program alongside the Program Coordinator. 
•    Plans, prepares and conducts group or individual sessions using techniques such as active listening, conflict resolution, basic group counselling, and basic psycho-educational group methods to resolve the identified needs and risks.
•    Outlines services provided by Encompass Support Services Society and community partners. Provide referrals, and assist youth to access appropriate community resources or specialized services to ensure youth have the skills to work through their needs long-term. 
•    Alongside Encompass’ Communications team, supports Foundry Langley social media accounts including Facebook, and Instagram. Shares relevant resources and works with Peer Support Workers and advisory members to create content.
•    Proficient in digital media design tools, including Canva and similar creative software.
•    Attend and provides activities at community events on behalf of Encompass.
•    Attend supervision, team-based care and partnership meetings as required.

Qualifications:

1.  Education and Knowledge
•    An asset to have a Bachelor’s in a related human/social services field including but not limited to (child and youth care, social work, psychology, etc.)

2.  Training and Experience
•    2 years recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.    
•    Direct service delivery experience in community social services sector, and demonstrated knowledge of and connection with existing social service supports, educational, skill building and employment services in the community is an asset.
•    Current First Aid Certification required.

3.  Skills and Abilities
•    Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills to interact effectively and build relationships with program staff, families, funders, volunteers, community, agencies and other organizations.
•    Ability to be flexible, resourceful and possess good time management skills.
•    Ability to operate within professional boundaries when developing and maintaining relationships with participants and stakeholders.
•    Solution-oriented to meet challenges facing participants served through Foundry Langley, including but not limited to youth, homeless, substance using and those with mental health issues. 
•    Knowledge of building resilience and community belonging through the youth drop-in model
•    Demonstrated ability to provide excellent client-centered services. 
•    Demonstrated experience in competently assessing the needs of youth to support them in achieving their goals
•    Demonstrated ability to write reports, maintain up to date and relevant case notes and compile statistic to support success measure and program development.
•    Demonstrated ability to adapt to change and perform effectively in a dynamic and complex work environment. 
•    Ability to work in a fast paced environment and respond effectively to crisis situations
•    Strong interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to work, independently, within a team setting and as a part of a multi-disciplinary team.
•    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with those served
•    Preference will be given to individuals with crisis intervention, suicide prevention, conflict resolution, and bullying and or gang awareness.
•    Knowledge of systemic issues and risk factors facing underrepresented groups including 2SLGBTQIA+ and Indigenous youth and young adults.
•    Ability to make effective referrals in a collaborative manner, reflecting in-depth knowledge of community resources and strong collaborative skills in working with other community partners.
•    Demonstrated knowledge of relevant Acts, pertinent regulations, policy, procedures and other statutory and certification requirements (such as the Mental Health Act; Adult Guardianship Act; Child, Family and Community Service Act; and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act).

4. Other Information
•    Able to work within a flexible work schedule including evenings and possibly weekends.
•    Must possess a valid BC Class 5 Drivers’ license, have a reliable vehicle, business insurance and drivers abstract review. (mileage paid for work use)
•    Provide primary source credential verification
•    Must have a working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office software.
•    Police Information Check, vulnerable sector
