Job Description
Based in Congleton, Cheshire, Senior Bird Bellows was established in 1975 as a family run operation serving the petro-chemical and gas industries. Since then, we have evolved to become one of the industry leaders in the design, development and manufacture of pressure duct systems, flexible joints and insulation for highly regulated industries. We have established customers in aerospace (both civil and military), as well as in the nuclear, oil and gas, chemical and pharmaceutical sectors.
We’re looking for a proactive Working Team Leader to support daily production while helping drive a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement. In this hands‑on role, you’ll split your time between operational work and leadership support, working closely with the Value Stream Team Leader to keep the department running smoothly and efficiently.
You’ll play a key part in promoting our company values, championing Zero Harm, and ensuring compliance with all EH&S and quality standards. You’ll help coach and mentor new starters and apprentices, support skills development across the team, and contribute to maintaining strong training coverage across all processes.
As a key point of communication on the shop floor, you’ll help lead daily Gemba meetings, monitor performance against SPQCD metrics, and support corrective actions when targets are off track. You’ll also assist with planning production orders, managing departmental performance, supporting maintenance planning, and driving 5S and Lean initiatives.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being hands‑on, takes pride in high standards, and wants to develop their leadership capability while contributing to a high‑performing production environment.
The role requires a candidate with a strong blend of operational knowledge, safety awareness, and people‑focused behaviours. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of our manufacturing processes, quality controls, and departmental KPIs, with the ability to influence team performance through safe, efficient working practices.
You’ll be someone who takes accountability, listens actively, and responds quickly to issues on the shop floor. You should be confident directing and supporting a team, making practical decisions that keep production flowing, and communicating effectively at all levels. A pragmatic, hands‑on problem solver with a calm, structured approach will thrive in this role.
To succeed, you’ll need Level 2 qualifications (including Maths and English), strong computer literacy, and a willingness to undertake further training. Additional certifications—such as First Aid, Fire Marshall, IOSH, or leadership training—are beneficial but not essential.
We value individuals who are flexible, approachable, and proactive, with a genuine commitment to our company values and behaviours. A desire to grow leadership capability and develop others will be a strong advantage.
We offer a supportive and rewarding work environment that values your wellbeing and work-life balance. Enjoy the benefits of a 4-day working week, giving you more time for what matters most. We also provide an excellent pension scheme, life assurance, and access to a confidential Employee Assistance Programme. Our team regularly takes part in social and wellbeing events, helping you stay connected, supported, and engaged both in and outside of work.
