Position Summary
A healthcare organization is seeking a Wound Care Medical Director to provide clinical leadership and oversight for wound care services. This role combines direct patient care with program leadership, quality improvement initiatives, and interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure high-quality, evidence-based wound management and optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide medical direction and clinical oversight for wound care services
• Deliver direct patient care for acute, chronic, and complex wounds
• Establish, implement, and monitor evidence-based wound care protocols and treatment pathways
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, and ancillary teams to coordinate care
• Monitor clinical outcomes, documentation quality, and adherence to standards of care
• Lead quality improvement, patient safety, and performance measurement initiatives
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and documentation requirements
• Partner with hospital leadership and specialty services including surgery, podiatry, infectious disease, and primary care
• Provide education, mentorship, and clinical guidance to wound care team members
• Support program development, growth initiatives, and service line planning
• Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant medical documentation
Practice Setting
• Hospital-based wound care center, outpatient clinic, or integrated wound care program
• May include inpatient consultative responsibilities
• Role includes both clinical and administrative leadership responsibilities
Patient Population
• Adult patients with acute, chronic, and complex wounds
• Conditions may include diabetic foot ulcers, venous stasis ulcers, pressure injuries, surgical wounds, and ischemic wounds
Work Environment
• Multidisciplinary, team-based clinical environment
• Focus on quality outcomes, patient safety, and continuous program improvement
Requirements:
Qualifications
• MD or DO from an accredited medical school
• Completion of an accredited residency program (e.g., Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Surgery, or related specialty)
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in primary specialty
• Experience or formal training in wound care management
• Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the practicing state
• DEA registration or eligibility
Skills & Competencies
• Expertise in advanced wound care and healing principles
• Strong clinical leadership and program management capabilities
• Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards related to wound care programs
• Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
