Space is getting crowded and satellite collisions are becoming a real threat, at OKAPI:Orbits we build software that keeps space operations safe and sustainable.
As a Working Student AI Engineering / LLM Prototyping (m/f/d) you help us explore how modern AI can improve our products and internal processes. You work with LLMs, RAG pipelines, chunking strategies, agent frameworks and vector databases, and you turn these into small end to end demos. You combine tools like LangChain, LangGraph, vector DBs and (cloud) APIs to build working MVPs that show what is possible today.
If you feel motivated by our mission and you bring a strong interest in AI engineering, we encourage you to apply, even if you do not check every single box.
Your tasks and responsibilities:
• Build functional MVPs for AI based features or tools, from prompt design to a simple backend or frontend
• Develop RAG pipelines and test different chunking, indexing and retrieval approaches
• Work with vector databases, embeddings and metadata filtering
• Design and test AI agents using LangChain, LangGraph or API based frameworks
• Evaluate different LLMs for quality, speed and cost depending on the use case
• Integrate prototypes with internal APIs, tools or datasets
• Work closely with engineering and product teams to validate ideas and refine requirements
• Present your results, document what worked and what did not, and propose next steps
Your profile:
• Enrolled in a Bachelor or Master program in Computer Science, Data Science, AI, Engineering or a related field at a university in Germany
• Practical experience with Python for scripts or small prototypes
• Comfortable using AI models through APIs and libraries such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Hugging Face, LangChain or LangGraph
• Curious about retrieval systems, embeddings, vector search, chunking and agentic workflows
