The Sr. Wireless Network Engineer will deliver innovative, secure, and resilient wireless solutions. This role involves product management level ownership for wireless network solutions, focusing on technical expertise in wireless technologies and large enterprise wireless network implementations, along with proactive network monitoring and maintenance discipline. The Sr. Wireless Network Engineer will ensure all wireless network designs are secure, available, and resilient, providing customers with an optimal wireless network experience. The candidate will implement complex wireless network and security designs, lead incident management escalations, lead vendor governance, and provide continuous improvement to optimize for security, scalability, availability, supportability, and cost.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
Demonstrate a strong understanding of wireless network technologies (Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 7, 802.11 protocols, etc.) and large enterprise wireless network implementations. Knowledge of network security protocols related to wireless networks like 802.1x, WPA/WPA2/WPA3, and VPNs.
Perform technical analysis and lead engineering efforts against wireless solution designs. Possess large enterprise build experience for available, secure, and resilient wireless network designs that meet solution design requirements.
Monitor the wireless network system state using tools such as SNMP, Sflow/netflow, and other observability tools. Proactively identify bottlenecks and troubleshoot complex wireless network issues to maintain uptime and optimal wireless network functionality.
Drive proactive awareness of wireless network capacity and health.
Lead preventative maintenance efforts and respond to operational issues to ensure an optimal wireless network experience.
Build and implement complex wireless network designs.
Configure wireless network designs to meet industry and security best practices.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement wireless network architectures that align with business objectives. Experience with site surveys, RF planning tools, and signal strength analysis.
Drive complex incident management and problem resolution for all wireless network technologies.
Establish and maintain governance frameworks for wireless network operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards. Create detailed wireless network documentation, including wireless network diagrams, configuration guides, and incident reports.
Manage vendor relationships to ensure service and designs meet enterprise requirements.
Lead problem management engagements and implement Corrective Actions to resolve root cause issues.
Collaborate with wireless network architects to ensure solution designs incorporate problem management learning.
Expertise in configuring and managing enterprise-grade wireless access points, controllers, and network management systems in a regulated industry.
Collaborating with other IT teams (network engineers, security teams, etc.) to ensure seamless integration with the overall network infrastructure.
Experience with network segmentation, VLANs, and QoS configurations for optimal wireless performance.
Familiarity with different Cisco wireless and other vendors including Aruba, Ruckus, and Extreme Networks.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to approach technical problems from the mindset of "how might we" to constantly find innovative ways to support firm innovation.
Ability to translate technical and business requirements into wireless designs to implement scalable wireless networks for large enterprise environments, considering factors like security, capacity, coverage, user experience, and cost.
Familiarity with different Cisco wireless and other vendors including Aruba, Ruckus, and Extreme Networks.
In-depth knowledge of wireless controller capabilities along with network monitoring and observability tools.
Strong proficiency with quantitative analysis to help drive action from service reporting.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Experience with network automation tools and scripting.
Cisco, Palo Alto, Security, CompTIA and other related certifications a plus (recently expired considered).
Ability to work collaboratively across functions.
