Job Description
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Wireless In-Building Technician II to serve as an on-site technical lead on our in-building wireless deployment projects. Building on the foundation of our Technician I role, the Tech II takes ownership of day-to-day field execution — directing crew members, coordinating with project managers, and ensuring installations are completed to the highest technical standards. This role is ideal for a seasoned technician ready to take the next step toward leadership without stepping away from hands-on technical work.
The Tech II will be provided a company vehicle and is expected to travel regularly in the DC, Maryland and Northern Virginia footprint.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the on-site technical lead, directing and coordinating the work of Tech I personnel and subcontractors to ensure efficient, safe, and quality project execution.
Install, configure, and commission in-building wireless systems including DAS (Distributed Antenna Systems), small cells, and public safety radio systems.
Perform advanced RF testing, troubleshooting, and system optimization using spectrum analyzers, PIM testers, OTDRs, and signal meters.
Conduct detailed site surveys and translate findings into actionable installation plans.
Terminate, splice, and test coaxial, fiber optic, and ethernet cables; verify all work meets carrier and industry specifications.
Serve as the primary point of contact on-site for the project manager, customer representatives, and building owners.
Review project scopes, drawings, and specifications to plan daily crew activities and identify potential issues before they arise.
Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of installations, test results, punch list items, and as-built records.
Enforce compliance with safety regulations, OSHA standards, customer site requirements, and company policies.
Respond to and troubleshoot complex service calls and system issues; escalate to engineering when appropriate.
Mentor and provide on-the-job guidance to Tech I team members.
Requirements:
Experience: 3–6+ years in wireless telecommunications, RF, or a closely related field, with demonstrated progression in responsibility.
Technical Skills:
Strong working knowledge of DAS architecture, small cell systems, and public safety radio systems.
Proficiency with RF test equipment including spectrum analyzers, PIM testers, OTDRs, and signal meters.
Skilled in fiber optic splicing and termination, coaxial cabling, and cable plant testing.
Ability to read and interpret RF design drawings, floor plans, and system documentation.
Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (IP addressing, VLANs, routers, switches).
Experience with major vendor platforms such as JMA, CommScope, Corning, SOLiD, or similar is strongly preferred.
Certifications (preferred):
iBwave Level 1 or 2, JMA, Corning, or CommScope system certifications.
OSHA 10 required; OSHA 30 preferred.
