Education, Training and Experience:
Required:
Registered Nurse with an AAS degree OR
Bachelor's degree with 8 Health Science courses OR
Nutrition & Dietetics Technician Registered (NDTR)
Preferred:
Registered Nurse with BSN or related BS OR
Nutritionist/DIetetic Intern OR
Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge and use of modern office practices and procedures including basic computer skills.
Knowledge and capable of dealing with persons of diverse socio-economic, educational, and cultural backgrounds.
Knowledge and use of appropriate telephone etiquette.
Ability to carry out detailed but basic oral and written instructions.
Communicate effectively in written and verbal forms.
Perform basic arithmetic calculations.
Self-motivated, acts independently, and initiates programmatic ideas.
Certifications and Other Requirements:
Required: Criminal background check; employer physical assessment; valid driver’s license & auto liability insurance, CPR certification
Recommended: First Aid, Hepatitis B Vaccine

Physical Requirements:
Strength: Lift/carry up to 25 pounds on occasion and 10 pounds frequently.
Movement:

Salary: $26.10 - $32.29 hourly
Position Summary:
The Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Competent Professional Authority (CPA) assumes professional responsibility for performing WIC certification, prescribing food packages, and providing nutrition and breastfeeding education for WIC participants. The CPA performs all job functions as defined in the Illinois State WIC Policy Procedures/USDA Southern Seven Health Department policies and procedures.
Job Duties:
Obtains anthropometric and hematologic for all applicants and ensures all measurement equipment is validated or calibrated annually.
Evaluates all applicants for dietary pattern and feeding practices to identify the participants’ nutritional risk factors, needs, and concerns.
Provides category specific nutrition education to all participants after completing the dietary evaluation.
Provides effective nutrition counseling that incorporates behavior change methods that support the participant’s readiness to make changes in their health and nutritional status.
Performs keyboard data entry including accurate and complete documentation of WIC participant’s assessments, nutrition education, progress notes using the SAP Note format and care plans using the appropriate data base screens as per policies and procedures.
Issues infant formula in compliance with the Federal Regulations following general policies and procedures for contract brand formulas, ready to feed formulas, and medically prescribed formulas.
Issues food packages that are appropriate for age and category to meet individual participant’s needs.
Completes outreach activities to grow and maintain caseload.
Manages caseload effectively to ensure client retention.
Educates participants on the importance of breastfeeding and makes appropriate referrals to Breastfeeding Peer Counselors.
Participates in appropriate staff and program meetings as requested by the supervisor.
Complies with all standard operating procedures of Southern Seven Health Department regarding employee health and safety, including but not limited to OSHA regulations, CLIA, EPA regulations regarding waste disposal, use of appropriate personal protective equipment, and adheres to Exposure Control Plan.
Assures that medical supplies and equipment are maintained in an appropriate manner and reports any problems, malfunctions, or supply issues to the Director of Nursing in a timely manner.
Assists other nursing or clerical staff as clinic needs warrant.
Complies and is familiar with the requirements of the policies and procedures adopted by Southern Seven Health Department as required by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
