THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE OFFERED A SALARY OF $19.50 PER HOUR.

The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement, and programs for youth in the community.

The Office of Human Resources holds a broad spectrum of responsibilities that contribute directly to ACS' vision of offering comprehensive, quality services that empower children and families to thrive. ACS' Office of Human Resources' primary functions include developing and implementing the agency's human resources policies and procedures, recruiting, and hiring qualified candidates for open positions, providing onboarding and training to new employees, managing employee performance and compensation, and ensuring compliance with all applicable employment, civil service, and labor laws. In addition to our primary functions, the Office of Human Resources provides a variety of other services to employees, such as career development, employee benefits, and wellness programs. The Office of Human Resources also works in partnership with divisions to provide initiatives and services that nurture and develop an environment of employee empowerment, advocacy, and involvement in the organization while attracting and cultivating a diverse dynamic workforce.

Within OHR, the Internship Programming & Special Projects (IP&SP) team supports ACS' mission by offering enriching internship learning experiences that provide opportunities to explore the very heart of NYC government so that every intern walks away with new knowledge, a stronger sense of direction, and a lasting connection to the ACS mission. Additionally, IP&SP supports the Assistant Commissioner of Recruitment & Retention with special projects surrounding recruitment, retention and succession planning efforts.

OHR is seeking an energetic individual to serve as an Internship Programming & Special Projects Undergraduate Intern to join our team.

As an ACS Wellness Undergraduate Intern, you will support ACS’ Employee Wellness Program team with implementing WorkWellNYC programs and initiatives to encourage ACS employees to put their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing first! This internship offers a unique opportunity to engage and empower ACS employees to live healthy, active lifestyles, and provide health and well-being services, programs, and resources. Additionally, as a member of the 2026, ACS Summer Internship Program cohort, you will participate in an enrichment program designed to fully engage students into the ACS and NYC government experience. Internship programming includes professional development workshops, lunch and learns, speaker events, NYC government tours, and networking opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:

- Assist Wellness Coordinator in developing and executing wellness programs, events, and educational resources

- Conduct research on health education topics and awareness to support wellness initiatives

- Develop wellness calendar, program flyers, and wellness content for the ACS intranet in efforts to engage employees and increase program visibility

- Support logistics and event coordination for wellness activities, such as workshops, fitness challenges, and informational sessions

- Maintain spreadsheets to track wellness program events and participation, outcomes, and feedback

- Participate in virtual meetings, assist in preparing materials, and summarize key takeaways
Learning Outcomes:
- Gain hands-on experience implementing wellness programming for multiple worksites

- Develop skills in partnering with the Mayor’s Office of Labor Relations, WorkWellNYC Program team to introduce new program initiatives for a government agency

- Enhance abilities in coordinating and executing organizational tasks and events

Preferred Skills:
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in public health or a related field of study
- A genuine interest in helping others improve their wellbeing, community health, health promotion/education, health behavior changes and/or wellness programming
- An understanding of health promotion principles, and general wellness topics (e.g., accessible physical activity, stress management, mental health awareness, etc.)
- A reliable team member who can work in a fast-paced environment independently or as a member of a team to accomplish goals
- Experience with basic data tracking and reporting, including surveys, participation numbers, etc.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (comfortable engaging with others)
- Proficient in Canva and Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Excel, Word for reports and communications)

As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program, June - August each year.
