We are an established business headquartered in Richland, Washington.  We began as an engineering firm in support of nuclear cleanup operations for the U.S. Department of Energy at Hanford in Richland, Washington. We have progressively grown from our origins into a full-service engineering and fabrication company providing cost-effective solutions in the nuclear, defense, energy, and hazardous waste industries. We offer full-service engineering, design, fabrication, instrumentation and controls, electrical, database and software engineering.

We are excited to announce that we are expanding and seeking Welders for our facility located in Idaho Falls, Idaho!

Job Summary:

The Welder role involves reading and interpreting blueprints & engineering plans and uses drawings along with other data, such as work plans, to calculate correct weld sequence to minimize or eliminate any warpage due to heat input. The Welder will layout, cut, fit, prep, tack, and weld components together to meet drawing specifications and requirements using the specified weld procedures dictated in the Fabrication, Inspection, and Test plan for each individual job. This role is responsible for ensuring completed components safely meet blueprint configurations and tolerances.

 

Essential Responsibilities/Duties: 

Perform welding on critical and support equipment to a qualified Welding Procedure Specification (WPS). Perform structural welding on parts and components per the requirements of various specifications as prescribed by Project Travelers, Engineering Drawings, and Work Orders.

Read, understand, and follow WPSs.

Sufficient knowledge of AWS and ASME to effectively work to all drawings.

Sufficient knowledge of GD&T to effectively work to all drawings.

Perform all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established Company policies and procedures.

Read and understand engineering drawings and welding symbols.

Fabricate and weld parts in accordance with Project documentation.

Extensive working knowledge of materials to determine the proper WPS to use and the ability to select the correct filler metal and gas per WPS requirements.

Determine the proper sequence of welding in order to prevent or reduce the amount of warpage to the work piece.

Fabricate weld fixtures as necessary to perform complex welding projects.

Welding: Successfully certify in three or more welding operations in accordance with WPSs for processes such as FCAW, GMAW, GTAW, and SMAW as required. Including pre- and post-weld heating operations as specified in WPSs as applicable.

Assembly: assemble basic mechanical equipment, structural components, and piping systems.

Perform self-verification of welded parts and assemblies before inspection to ensure quality of work performed meets or exceeds acceptance criteria.

Interface with QA/QC, Engineering team, and customer personnel.

Report unsafe conditions and unsafe equipment.

Measure work pieces to determine accuracy and acceptability per given requirements.

Removes burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from work piece.

Ensure that all documentation (including weld records) are filled out correctly and kept current as work progresses.

Keep a clean and organized work area.

 

Welder Qualifications / Skills:

1+ year experience with a list of previous welding qualifications

Ability to pass multiple Columbia Energy weld tests.

Ability to operate tools, machinery, and vehicles safely.

Ability to read, write and comprehend both verbal communications and written directions.

Ability to perform arithmetic as required for layout and fabrication i.e., add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions and decimals, solve for missing angles or sides of a triangle, etc.

U.S. Citizenship Required (due to the nature of our government contracts) 

Must pass an employment record, criminal background check, and a drug screen (drug and alcohol-free workplace).

Must have reliable transportation to work each day.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in R&D or Prototype fabrication.

Experience working to a NQA-1 or ASME Section VIII program.

Experience performing welds regularly subjected to testing such as UT and RT.

Ability to weld pipe, sheet metal, and structural steel.

Physical Requirements:

Employee will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting.

Will talk and hear to communicate. Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, pull: objects, materials, controls and tools repetitively. May be required to lift, carry, and move up to 50lbs.

Will work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, work off of platforms and man lifts, and may occasionally work out on an open structure using the appropriate fall protection requirements.

Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves, and leather work boots.

Will be required to work in hot/cold/damp environments.

 

Working Conditions while Performing Essential Functions:

This position is performed in a shop/construction/field setting. The atmosphere is fast-paced and deadline oriented with emphasis on safety and quality.
