General Description
This is a skilled, hands-on role requiring a high level of technical competence, typically gained through a recognised apprenticeship or formal training programme. The post holder must be fully qualified across all aspects of their trade and capable of delivering work to the standards, specifications, and finish expected of a qualified craftsman.
The role involves carrying out defined tasks in accordance with written instructions, while also demonstrating the initiative and judgement needed to support the Depot in delivering a high-quality, reliable service to the wider business. Flexibility is essential, as the role requires the ability to work across both core and non-core trades.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out work as directed by the Line Manager, ensuring deadlines and priorities are met.
Undertake all tasks within own core trade, as well as non-core activities across other disciplines; this may include supporting or instructing others when required.
Effectively prioritise workload to maintain productivity and service quality.
Identify, report, and advise on defects discovered during the course of duties.
Accurately complete all required documentation in line with Depot procedures and standards.
Ensure all work areas are left clean, tidy, and safe upon completion of tasks.
Take responsibility for all tools, equipment, and property, ensuring safe use and correct storage.
Deliver high-quality workmanship that consistently meets required standards and specifications.
Check and verify non-core work to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
Accurately input and maintain data using IT systems.
Education Requirements / Person Specification
NVQ in Welding or a comparable recognised qualification.
GCSEs at Grade C or above (or equivalent).
Completed time-served apprenticeship or equivalent NVQ Level 3 qualification.
Trained in problem-solving techniques, root cause analysis, and effective team working.
NVQ Level 3 in a non-core trade (e.g. Engineering Maintenance or Production) or equivalent qualification.
Competent IT skills.
