POSITION DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Weed Control Assistant
Department: Weed Control
Reports To: Weed Control Supervisor/Technician
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY:
Performs manual work involved in controlling and preventing the establishment of aggressive non-native noxious weeds on all lands in Rio Blanco County.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

● Assists in the mixing of chemicals at the appropriate volumes for the application to noxious weeds.
● Sprays noxious weeds with appropriate chemical mixes and rates along county road right-of-ways, for private landowners and on contracted public lands
● Operates and performs minor maintenance on spray equipment, including a one ton truck, hydraulic and computerized sprayers, 4-Wheelers, booms, and backpack sprayers.
OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Assists in GIS and GPS mapping of noxious weeds
● Stocks herbicide inventory
● Assists with maintaining accurate records
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
● Noxious weed identification preferred
● Equipment and herbicide used in noxious weed control preferred
Skill in:
●Operation of ATV, UTV, Truck
● Use of GPS
Abilities:
● Read various types of maps
● Ability to learn math skills for the calibration of spray equipment and the mixing of chemicals
● Ability to maintain a courteous and effective working relationship with co-workers, other agencies, and the public
● Ability to be organized, to take direction and work with minimal supervision
Education and/or Experience:
Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
● High School Diploma or Equivalent
● 18 years of age
Licenses or Certificates:
● Valid Colorado Driver’s License
● Must pass in-house training
Physical Demands:
● Operation of a motor vehicle on and off road
● Must be able to regularly lift 50 lbs. and carry a 50 lb. backpack sprayer over rough terrain
Work Environment:
●Work is performed in the outdoor environment, mainly away from amenities. Exposure to weather conditions is constant. Exposure to chemicals is frequent and safety precautions and equipment must be used.
