ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with routine water and wastewater sampling, testing, and monitoring activities under the direction and supervision of certified operators.
Support the observation and monitoring of flow controls, chemical dosing, and related system functions, in accordance with established procedures and training.
Participate in basic maintenance and upkeep of equipment, tools, and facilities, including cleaning and organizing work areas, as assigned.
Record meter readings and operational data accurately and assist in maintaining required logs and documentation.
Accompany supervisory staff during inspections of water wells, treatment facilities, and wastewater collection systems to support operational and compliance activities.
Participate in emergency response drills and assist during operational or service calls as required and within the scope of training provided.
Comply at all times with applicable occupational health and safety requirements, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Attend and actively participate in required training sessions, workshops, and certification-related courses as part of the trainee development plan.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor, consistent with the nature and scope of the position.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE:
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent (GED) is required, in accordance with Alberta Environment and Protected Areas Water and Wastewater Operator Certification eligibility requirements.
Post secondary education or formal training in water and/or wastewater treatment, environmental sciences, or a related field is considered an asset but is not required.
Possession of a valid Alberta Level I Water Treatment Operator Certificate or eligibility and commitment to obtain Level I certification through Alberta Environment and Protected Areas within a defined timeframe is required.
Must meet the Alberta Environment and Protected Areas requirements to operate in training (OIT) status where applicable and work under the supervision of a certified operator until certification requirements are fully met.
Valid, unrestricted Class 5 Alberta Driver’s Licence is required, with the ability to provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract upon request.
Relevant safety certifications (including but not limited to First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, Confined Space Entry, and H₂S Alive) are considered assets and may be required to be obtained and maintained within a specified period following hire.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Possess a valid Class 5 AB driver’s license and own or access to a vehicle.
Willingness and ability to work after hours and/or weekends and be on-call when required.
Willingness to submit to an oath of confidentiality.
Successful Completion of Criminal Record Check.
Willing to work flexible schedule. Combination of working remotely, in-office, and at community locations.
Must be fluent in English and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong working knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office Software is essential.
Ability to provide clear, precise information to Leadership and members.
Ability to speak and/or understand the Cree language (or another applicable First Nation language) would be beneficial.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Daily work in outdoor environments with varying temperature conditions.
Regular exposure to wildlife, insects, and potential hazards.
Occasional exposure to working in elevated areas.
Subject to potential cuts, scrapes, falls, burns, and blows.
On-call duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Compliance with Mikisew Cree First Nation Occupational Health and Safety Policy.
Correct Personal Protective Equipment always required, including respirators and SCBA as needed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Moderate physical effort, including bending, lifting, and walking.
Extensive periods of sitting and standing.
