AECOM is seeking a Water Treatment Engineer to support and advance technical delivery within our BC Water Team. This new role is ideal for an experienced engineer who provides specialized technical expertise and contributes independently to water treatment studies and designs while supporting overall project delivery.
This position may be based in Kelowna, Burnaby, or Victoria and offers the opportunity to work on complex water treatment projects alongside Technical Leads and multidisciplinary teams across British Columbia.
Key Responsibilities
• Serve as a senior technical resource providing specialized input to municipal drinking water treatment studies, designs, and infrastructure projects.
• Independently complete discipline‑specific components of water treatment projects, including process design, analysis, and modeling.
• Apply drinking water regulations, guidelines, and best practices in the development of compliant treatment solutions.
• Participate in interdisciplinary reviews to ensure technical integration, constructability, and quality of deliverables.
• Prepare and review technical reports, drawings, specifications, and calculations related to potable water treatment systems.
• Perform quality control reviews of work prepared by others.
• Develop construction cost estimates, technical effort estimates, and provide input to project budgets and schedules.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and project staff.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• A minimum of 6 years of related experience, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, in water treatment or closely related fields.
• Solid understanding of water treatment processes, system design, and performance evaluation.
• Ability to work independently and exercise sound engineering judgment.
• Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in British Columbia, or ability to obtain registration.
Preferred Qualifications
• Master’s or PhD degree in a related field with a focus on drinking water treatment or drinking water quality.
• 10+ years of experience in water treatment engineering, with a focus on developing client focused solutions while achieving modeling and regulatory compliance.
• Experience with water treatment modeling software and data analysis tools.
• Experience supporting municipal drinking water treatment or water infrastructure projects.
• Familiarity with BC and Canadian drinking water regulatory frameworks, guidelines, and approval quality regulations and approval processes.
• Experience preparing technical specifications, design packages, and construction cost estimates.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor junior staff and contribute to technical excellence within a team environment.
• Expertise in water treatment modeling software and data analysis tools.
• AWWA certifications or other relevant water treatment specialties preferred.
• Relocation is not available for this position.
• Sponsorship for Canadian employment authorization is not available for this position.
