Wabtec Mining - Technical Leader Japan

The Wabtec Mining team delivers world class electric drive propulsion systems for heavy haul mining trucks with payloads up to 400T. These systems are introducing new technology to help mines meet their sustainability goals. 

How will you make a difference?

In this role you will work with the Global Mining Team to develop local Engineering Team for supporting partnership to develop Electric Drive Systems (Electric Machines, Inverter Drives, Mechanical and cooling systems) for electric drive mining vehicles.  You’ll have the opportunity to interact directly with customers, global engineering teams and cross functional teams during project definition and execution.

 

What will your typical day look like?

• You will be reporting to the V.P. Technology, Mining (based in Pittsburgh) for the Global Mining Team and working with Engineering team to do the following:• Plan, manage, and execute multiple projects with Vehicle OEMs. 
• Routine communication and Face-Face sessions with OEM customers
• Identify resource needs and help develop small local engineering team in Japan to support product requirements, validation requirements, prototype vehicle testing and production readiness… overall project execution
• Provide technical customer documentation
• Oversee testing, assess data, troubleshoot test issues and implement countermeasures, work with other engineers to prepare and present test reports.
• Maintain business relationship with the customer.
• Interact with customer site management and test personnel to plan and execute tests and provide support for the local OHV vehicles.
• Resolve field issues as assigned.
• Perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.

Moderate Travel will be required in this job.

 

 

What do we want to know about you?

• Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with a preference for advanced degrees in Electrical or Systems Engineering.
• 10+ years Engineering experience in the following areas:• Control & system validation for motor, alternator, and power electronic systems.
• Electromechanical system testing.
• System design and circuit analysis.

• Engineering Leadership, experience building a team will be highly regarded
• Project management experience\Mining or Heavy Industry application experience
• Fluent in English and Japanese

 

What about the physical demands of the job?

Candidates may be conducting assembly and testing at a customer’s manufacturing site and/or proving grounds and periodically may work in a full-scale propulsion system test lab or support field testing at mines.  The below physical capabilities are essential:

• Able to climb multistory access stairs and/or ladders on large mining trucks to perform validation testing at mines.
• Oversee and troubleshooting as prototype and production trucks are built and commissioned in Customer factory/field settings.
• Operate test instrumentation.
