About the Role

We are seeking an exceptional VP of Engineering to lead the definition and execution of agentic commerce, balancing openness and merchant control. This is a critical executive role for an engineering leader who is a proven talent magnet and an outstanding product operator with a strong track record of delivering business-defining results across both v1 and v.next product portfolios. The role demands platform expertise, a focus on shopper experience, and deep applied AI knowledge to create a smarter, more intuitive commerce ecosystem for merchants and end-users.

You will lead Swap’s talented Engineering organization, shaping our long-term strategy and roadmap. The product suite is broad and includes front-end shopper experiences, shipping and returns solutions, inventory and demand planning, package support, and global governmental compliance which all present significant agentic opportunities for development and exploration.

What You’ll Do

• Leadership: Recruit, build, and develop a world-class, high-performance engineering team, instilling a customer and business first culture.

• Business Impact: Ensure the engineering organization is a core driver of business success, prioritizing projects that maximize commercial outcomes.

• Vision & Strategy: Own and execute Swap’s engineering vision and north star architecture, maintaining an agentic-first perspective that prioritizes impact and minimizes buzzwords.

• Scaling Systems: Successfully build, launch, and scale both B2C and B2B product offerings.

• ROI: Facilitate rigorous prioritization trade-offs with stakeholders to maximize Return on Invested Engineering Time.

• Accountability: Define clear, measurable metrics of success for engineering teams (both product and platform teams) and deliver results against established targets.

• Cross-Functional Alignment: Build and maintain strong cross-functional relationships with Product and Business teams to accelerate innovation and time-to-market.

What We’re Looking For

• Ambitious, curious, and excited to build in an emerging category at a fast paced startup

• History of recruiting and building high talent teams filled with leaders of leaders

• 10+ years in engineering, with exposure to building AI-native or agent-powered products

• Demonstrated customer centric thinking for maintaining alignment with a growing set of products and a rapidly growing engineering organization

• Strong track record taking zero-to-one products to launch AND scaling v.next offerings

• Familiarity with applied AI, conversational interfaces, LLMs, or agent orchestration tools

• Customer-centric mindset feeding business outcomes; you know how to ship solutions to customer challenges that simplify the complex in a delightful way all way staying focused on business outcomes

• Experience leading departments with tech stacks Typescript/JavaScript, using Node.js to architect and create REST and/or GraphQL APIs

• Strong technical experience leading teams in modern front-end Typescript/JavaScript libraries and frameworks such as React.js

• Experience working in commerce or logistics is a plus
