The VP – Ducted HVAC Commercial  provides strategic and operational leadership for the engineering organization responsible for commercial ducted HVAC products serving the North American market. This role ensures consistent application of engineering standards, design philosophies, and development processes while enabling successful new product introductions and sustaining existing product lines.
The position leads multiple functional engineering teams that support product engineering, including commercial laboratories, controls engineering, design quality, costing and value analysis/value engineering (VAVE), and engineering change coordination. With a high degree of autonomy, the role aligns engineering execution with business objectives, regulatory requirements, and customer needs.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and manage the overall operation of commercial ducted product engineering support functions, ensuring consistent engineering practices and high-quality execution.
• Provide strategic direction and resource alignment to support new product development, product launches, and lifecycle management of existing products.
• Partner cross-functionally with Product Management, Project Management, Manufacturing, Procurement, Quality, and Technical Services to ensure alignment on product, cost, quality, and timing objectives.
• Drive engineering process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce testing and development cycle times, and improve overall execution.
• Oversee engineering change and specification (C-spec) workflows to ensure clear communication, traceability, and timely implementation across functions.
• Interface with external suppliers and regulatory agencies to ensure product compliance and effective technical collaboration.
• Lead, develop, and mentor engineering leaders and teams, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Represent the organization in relevant industry associations and standards bodies (e.g., AHRI, ASHRAE).
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in business or finance; MBA or Master’s degree preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive experience with commercial HVAC or closely related industrial products sector.
• 5+ years of leadership experience managing multi-disciplinary teams and shared engineering resources.
• Strong understanding of commercial HVAC product design, development, testing, and regulatory compliance.
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders across engineering, manufacturing, and business functions.
• Working knowledge of structured engineering and quality methodologies such as Six Sigma, DFMEA, design controls, and systematic problem-solving.
• Demonstrated experience driving process improvement and operational efficiency in an engineering environment.
• Strong business acumen with the ability to align technical decisions to cost, quality, and market objectives.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including interaction with suppliers and regulatory bodies.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience supporting products for the U.S. and Canadian commercial HVAC markets.
• Familiarity with cost engineering, VAVE methodologies, and design-to-cost initiatives.
• Experience managing global or offshore engineering teams.
• Active involvement in industry organizations such as AHRI or ASHRAE.
• Experience working in a matrixed, multinational organization.
