The Aparecio Foundation is a nonprofit organization that was designed as an economic development strategy to lift women out of poverty and as a community development approach to build the leadership capacity of low-income women. The Aparecio Foundation provides academic support and scholarship programs for high-potential, low-income women in public high schools through an eight-year multiple-mentor program.

This is a unpaid Volunteer / Intern position.
Aparecio Foundation seeks to increase the potential of actualizing its mission and vision on a continuous basis. The Mentor Program Development Consultant will assist with this goal by assisting students academically in whichever subject(s) the student is seeking improvement in. This position is also responsible for innovation and expansion of job scope and responsibilities as the both the foundation and position grow!
• Serve as counselor to students in the areas of academic advising, career planning, guidance and personal counseling, and referrals to appropriate university and community resources to help students attain their life and educational goals
• Monitor participants’ academic progress
• Assist the participants in developing and implementing academic activities to increase the retention and graduation rates
• Promote and maintain good public relations with faculty, staff, students and administrators
• Must possess good oral and written communication skills
• Demonstrate flexibility and interpersonal skills
• Responsible, dependable, honest, and mature
• Friendly, patient, and sensitive to a diversity of students
• Knowledge is defined as the acquisition of information stored in memory through experience and learning.
• Skills represent the practical aspect of knowledge. The implementation of knowledge in daily tasks that can be acquired or developed through training is termed as skill.
• Lastly, ability is characterized as the stable and abstract behavioral and cognitive capacity.
Education and/or Experience
• Bachelors Degree. Masters preferred.
• Have some work experience in a related field.
• Previous experience in working with educationally or economically disadvantaged would be helpful
Working Conditions and Atmosphere:
Tutors must commit to work during after-school hours and if required some weekends. Tutors must arrange a work schedule with the school supervisor. Assist students in improving academic achievement by meeting with them on a regular basis to clarify learning problems and work on study skills.
