VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR JOB DESCRIPTION
GENERAL SUMMARY: Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for cultivating, overseeing, tracking, and recognizing the volunteers and community service members of BAHS. This position will interview volunteers and community service individuals, determine the needs of BAHS and schedule these teams where necessary. Additionally, growing and fostering good community relations is essential for this position.
SUPERVISOR: Community Relations Manager
This role requires weekend hours.
QUALIFICATIONS:
2-years of volunteer management preferred
Customer service experience
Computer proficient and able to learn shelter and donor software
JOB SKILLS:
Able to handle large animals, able to walk large dogs
Allergies that are aggravated by animals or cleaning supplies may be a disqualification
Able to stand, kneel, walk for up to 8 hours per day
Able to lift up to 50 pounds
Clean driving record and valid IL driver’s license; ability to drive
Have good written and verbal communication skills
Be highly organized, motivated, and detail-oriented
Be able to work well in a team environment with the public,
co-workers, and volunteers
Demonstrate emotional maturity and good judgment
Be committed to the mission, values, and goals of the
Belleville Area Humane Society
Be flexible and willing to help with jobs outside of this job description
Strong communications skills to handle tense and emotional situations involving the public
Maintain a positive attitude based on teamwork and overall good work ethic
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Actively recruit volunteers and community service members to serve the shelter; including external volunteer fairs
Point of contact and supervisor of all volunteers and community service members
Manage and respond to volunteer@bahspets
Create and send newsletters to our volunteers, engaging them in all aspects of BAHS
Host service days for volunteer groups
Determine the daily, weekly, monthly and annual volunteer needs of our organization
Reach out to local businesses for support and services
Organize volunteers for community events (college talks, libraries, nursing homes etc)
Train volunteers and community service members on the operations of BAHS
Monitor volunteer involvement via BetterImpact
Plan and execute volunteer appreciation wrap around services and events
Attend training webinars/videos on new software
Proactively assess and attend to program needs, ensuring timely and reliable services
Perform essential functions for the program including but not limited to customer service, volunteer management, administrative tasks and data entry
Provide back up office support including but not limited to answering phones, filing, shipping, copying, working with shelter and donation management databases
