CMHA Durham Board of Directors is currently seeking to recruit up to three (3) dedicated
volunteers to join our volunteer Board of Directors for an initial term of three (3) years.
About CMHA Durham
The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Durham is a community mental health and primary
care centre that has been providing mental health services to Durham Region for over 60 years. During
that time, it has evolved into a mental health and primary care Hub to provide a broad range of services
to individuals and their families experiencing mental health challenges, from information and education
to case management, psychosocial rehabilitation, housing, and primary healthcare. These services are
provided through inter-professional teams focused on providing clinically based services that, in
addition to dealing with client mental health issues, address social determinants of health using the
recovery model. The Canadian Mental Health Association Durham is part of the national Canadian
Mental Health Association, which was founded in 1918, and is one of the oldest voluntary organizations
in Canada. It currently receives funding from Ontario Health, Ministry of Health, Federal Project Grants,
United Way Greater Toronto Area of Canada, Ontario Trillium Foundation, Membership, Donations and
Special Projects.

About our Board of Directors
CMHA Durham Board of Directors provides strategic oversight to a not-for-profit charitable
corporation.
The Board composition ranges from 8 to 13 directors and members, with a mix of competencies
required to carry out its governance responsibilities and support the organization's vision, mission,
and values.
The attributes that members should possess include integrity, high ethical standards, sound
judgment, empathy, effective interpersonal skills, cultural competency, and a strong commitment
to the health of everyone in the community and to the success of the organization in serving the
community's short- and long-term needs.
For this recruitment, we are seeking candidates with experience or background in:
• Legal Expertise (including practicing or retired lawyers)
• Professional Accountancy and Financial Expertise (e.g., Chartered Professional Accountant
(CPA) / Chartered Accountant)
• Healthcare Sector Experience
• Lived Experience (Personal or Family)
• Experience Working with Vulnerable Populations
• Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Accessibility & Anti-Racism (EDIA/AR)
• Marketing, Communications, or Fund Development
• Bilingualism (French and English)
• Proficiency in Languages other than English
Candidates Must:
• Live or work in Durham Region
• Be able to commit to 8-9 hybrid meetings annually, with 2-3 in-person events.
