Purpose & Overview
The Visual Designer at Aerolab is a hands-on, versatile designer with a strong emphasis on conceptualization, experimentation, and visual quality. They excel in building digital experiences, developing brand identities, and constructing robust design systems.
They oversee visual decision-making across projects, collaborate effectively with designers, PMs, and developers, and find great excitement in crafting visual stories that make an impact. They're also fluent in generative AI tools, naturally weaving them into exploration, ideation, and production to push creative boundaries.
Reports directly to the Head of Design and works alongside the Design team, Developers, and Project Managers.
Role Expectations
Visual Quality & Craft
• Define art direction and advance existing visual themes and guidelines.
• Prioritize pixel-perfect quality in all deliverables.
• Generate different style proposals, mood boards, sketches, mockups, and prototypes for digital products and websites.
• Leverage generative AI tools (Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT, and others) as part of the creative process — from early ideation to visual production.
• Oversee the visual execution of the project, providing new perspectives, inspiration, best practices, and practical improvement solutions.
• Ensure designs and processes meet client objectives and expectations.
Collaboration & Ownership
• Collaborate in crafting briefs and providing feedback to illustrators, copywriters, and motion designers to ensure the vision is carried out effectively.
• Assist in translating creative and client requirements into comprehensive design briefs.
• Contribute to crafting adaptable design systems and visual languages.
• Collaborate closely with the Design team, helping others develop a more robust creative vision.
• Actively engage in presentations, explaining design decisions confidently.
• Support less experienced designers by sharing knowledge and best practices.
Continuous Improvement
• Stay updated on visual design trends, emerging tools, and industry references.
• Explore the use of AI and generative workflows as part of the creative and visual exploration process.
• Actively seek feedback to improve work quality and the user experience.
• Document design decisions and processes to scale knowledge within the team.
