Garmin Connect Mobile is our best known, Fitness and Outdoor power-house companion app catering to over 20 million active users and supporting an ever-growing number of compatible Garmin devices (around 150 at this point). The feature set is very rich and targets our complex user base with running, cycling, wellness, training, smartwatch, golfing, diving, and even pregnancy tracking feature.
As a Visual Designer working in our Cluj office, you will be part of a team that works on Garmin Connect, the fitness and wellness application that millions of Garmin customers rely on. You will lead the creation and execution of complex design concepts that maintain a consistent visual appearance. You will provide mentoring to other visual designers by offering input for the creation and execution of design concepts.
Responsibilities
• Manage project planning including providing substantial contributions for determining the feasibility of project goals and objectives
• Maintain an exceptional eye for detail and deep appreciation for finding simple design representation for complex data
• Partner with Product Designers in the creation of demos and presentations to highlight the vision for key features of exciting new technology and/or product
• Create and present new ideas to the graphics design and/or product design teams and other Garmin market segments
• Responsible for maintaining corporate branding and consistent look for all owned products
• Serves as an expert in the completion of complex design tasks and projects
• Provide guidance and mentoring to other Visual Designers.
• Proactively and in a timely manner explores new imaging technologies and makes recommendations to department manager and team leads
• Proactively leads innovative imaging projects within and outside of the department
• Responsible for defining, creating, documenting and maintaining style guides
• Demonstrates understanding art production issues as they relate to engineering and production
• Provides reliable solutions to a wide range of difficult problems
• Work collaboratively and communicate professionally with software engineering, product designers and other Garmin associates as needed to achieve department and company objectives/goals
• Apply a sense of urgency, commitment and focus on the right priorities in developing solution in a timely fashion
• Remain current on traditional graphics design skills and new graphics design tools and techniques.
• Provide clear visibility to leadership and team on the status of their work
• Perform other job related duties as assigned
Requirements:
• A Portfolio that demonstrates exceptional skills in graphics manipulations and visual effect techniques (illustrations, color renderings, texturing, 2D and 3D concepts)
• Expert use and knowledge of design tools such as Figma, Illustrator & Adobe After Effects
• Hands-on experience with industry-standard digital illustration hardware
• Demonstrates understanding of fundamental design disciplines (composition, information architecture, color theory, typography and animation)
• Shows strong expertise in gestalt principles, aesthetics, system thinking with a holistic approach
• Understands Garmin related industry
• Previous mentorship experience
• Demonstrates strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and cross-functional stakeholders
• Demonstrates proficient organization skills, with the ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks
• Demonstrates a natural curiosity for creative exploration
• Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
• Proficiency in English
