Position Summary
First and foremost, the VP of IT is a collaborative thought partner who possesses strong communication and leadership skills, and who has a passion for replicating in-person and phone services digitally. LAPFCU seeks a mission-aligned, emotionally intelligent IT executive who blends technical expertise with humility and team leadership. The successful candidate will be a bridge-builder who earns trust, listens actively, and brings people along through LAPFCU’s sustainable expansion to being a national credit union
Scope of Responsibility
Participate in strategic planning including budgeting and provide leadership and direction of systems and technology.
Serve as a strategic point of contact with technology vendors and ensure business requirements are met.
Automate, eliminate redundancies, and formulate processes to fully utilize existing systems and tools.
Carry out the deployment of necessary hardware and software and coordinate the implementation of new technology applications and services between IT and the operational departments.
Establish standards and policies for acquisition, deployment, maintenance, use and protection of information and systems.
Cultivate strong relationships across the executive leadership team and observe and assess current IT operations during the first 90 days, recommending and implementing high-impact initiatives thoughtfully and collaboratively.
Key Strategic Objectives
Gain a deep understanding of LAPFCU’s current-state solutions and reengineer processes so that existing systems and tools are being fully utilized. Most critical is addressing persistent system usability issues on the core and digital platforms.
Create a multi-year technology strategic roadmap ensuring secure and member-protective IT operations.
Establish a culture of accountability, partnership, and execution, including evaluating the IT team’s structure, performance, and engagement.
This leader will collaborate on exciting initiatives such as digital card issuance and online banking upgrades.
Experience /Qualifications
Prior credit union, banking, or financial services experience strongly preferred.
15+ years of progressive information technology experience, including 5 years leading a team and setting clear and measurable objectives, delegating responsibility, rewarding outstanding performance, and taking appropriate action to correct performance.
Fiserv programming and/or management of core system required.
Technical acumen should include a strong understanding of disaster recovery plans, IT security practices, and vendor management.
Strong executive presence, with direct interaction with senior leadership and strategic planning.
Demonstrated accountability by taking ownership of actions, decisions, and team's performance, and fostering a culture where everyone is responsible for their work. Experience setting clear expectations, following through on commitments, and being transparent and humble when acknowledging mistakes.
Demonstrated management skills including:
Planning, organizing, and execution of project deliverables.
Leading, organizing, and motivating project teams to work collectively to deliver results in a timely and effective manner.
Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with project teams, internal associates and external vendors.
Ensuring projects are completed as cost-effectively as possible while meeting business objectives.
Education
High school diploma, GED or equivalent required.
Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
