Compensation:
• Base Salary Range: $142,958 – $214,448
• Annual Bonus: 17.5% target with up to 150% upside based on performance
• Sign-On Bonus: Available (case-by-case)

Overview
A large, high-acuity acute care hospital in Houston, Texas is seeking an accomplished Vice President of Emergency Services to provide enterprise-level leadership across adult emergency, pediatric emergency, and multiple freestanding emergency departments.
This executive role is responsible for strategic planning, operational performance, quality outcomes, physician engagement, and financial stewardship for a complex, high-volume emergency services platform.
Responsibilities
Clinical Quality & Operations
• Lead development and execution of evidence-based clinical strategies to enhance patient safety, quality outcomes, and regulatory compliance
• Establish and standardize emergency care practices to reduce variation, improve throughput, and optimize efficiency
• Drive patient flow strategies including capacity planning, volume forecasting, admission/discharge coordination, and surge management
• Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards
• Direct nursing practice, operational policies, and emergency department standards of care
Service & Patient Experience
• Champion a patient- and family-centered emergency care model
• Develop and implement service excellence strategies that improve patient satisfaction and community reputation
• Leverage performance feedback, benchmarks, and patient experience data to drive continuous improvement
People Leadership
• Foster a high-performance, accountability-driven leadership culture
• Lead recruitment, development, engagement, and retention of emergency services leadership and staff
• Coach and mentor directors and managers to build a deep leadership pipeline
• Ensure appropriate staffing models, position control, and labor productivity
Growth & Strategy
• Lead service line strategic planning and business development initiatives
• Partner with physicians and administrative leaders to expand existing services and develop new emergency care offerings
• Monitor external healthcare trends, reimbursement changes, and competitive dynamics to ensure market differentiation
• Develop and maintain strong external relationships that strengthen referral networks and community presence
Financial Management
• Develop and manage operating and capital budgets aligned with organizational objectives
• Evaluate ROI for capital investments and growth initiatives
• Identify cost reduction opportunities while maintaining clinical excellence
• Oversee labor management, premium pay utilization, and resource optimization
Scope of Responsibility
• Oversight of Adult Emergency Department, Pediatric Emergency Department, and multiple Free-Standing Emergency Departments
• High-volume emergency operations with annual ED visits exceeding 80,000
• Adult ED and Pediatric ED with combined daily volumes exceeding 240+ patients/day (seasonal variability)
• Oversight of approximately 160 FTEs
• Direct leadership of 3 Emergency Services Directors (Adult ED, Pediatric ED, FSEDs)
• Reports directly to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO)
Required:
• Minimum 5+ years of recent Director-level Emergency Services leadership
• Experience must be within the last year
• Prior leadership in a Level I or Level II Trauma Center
• Demonstrated experience managing emergency departments with 80,000+ annual visits
• BSN required
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Master’s degree required (or approved advanced education plan)
• Active RN license (Texas or compact state)
• BLS certification
Preferred:
• Executive-level experience overseeing multiple ED sites
• Strong background in throughput optimization, quality/regulatory performance, and physician alignment
